There's a difference between the Waffen SS and "Camp Guard and Nazi politicians' Bodyguard" SS. Waffen were battlefield troops, they were a branch of the SS, sure, but they certainly didn't work at Auschwitz or Treblinka.
As Lord Rommel said, nazi-symbols like the swastika and the SS-runes are forbidden in Germany, with some exception.However, video-games aren't such an exception.I also agree with Pauly3 on the topic of playing as SS. I don't want to do that, yet I still want to play Ostheer.Why can't you leave the SS out of the name and Uniform, you can still have the camouflage and their "elite" abilities. So everybody could think about them what he wants, and at the same time nobody is forced to think about SS.

The officers would of course steal a lot more than the common soldier. Tank crews would tie mattresses to the sides of their tanks (not just for anti-RPG protection). This is where the funny part ends.They would shoot teenagers because they presupposed they were German partisans. They thought the children were little more than the cubs of the "German beast" that would grow up to hate Russia, so many thought they should have been killed like animals.They raped little girls, women and old women from Prussia to Germany. They would do this in groups, with a dozen men raping a single person at a time (there are higher "scores", I´ve read about it). If they were drunk, which was a wide-spread problem in the Red Army, they would sometimes not be able to get it up, so they would use bottles and other things they found to rape these women, causing terrible wounds. Of course, some of these units did commit war crimes that are pretty famous, but most of them simply fulfilled their duties as soldiers. So excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, princess, but I find no problem in playing with SS, or with Russian troops, because it´s been SEVENTY YEARS since the events scenified in the game, and I am perfectly capable of playing a STRATEGY GAME for the military simulation and fun aspects of it. I´m not so stupid as to take one of these two factions as morally superior to each other because as far as I care, they were both SCUM. And I don´t play only to "roleplay" and masturbate over being a commander in the morally superior side of World War II. So do me a couple of favors:1- Shut the fuck up. 2- Whenever you are playing with the Russian faction, remember that a sizeable number of your troops are drunk rapists, murderes and thieves with no sense of honor or decency. That means you have no moral ground to say shit about people who want to play SS.
