Dear Eastern Front fans,

Time has come to announce a further feature of the upcoming Ostheer faction; its own map pool, filled with the work of many talented community mappers:

You still have the chance to become part of this very group - it's quite simple: Take part in the first official Eastern Front mapping contest! Excluded from participation are Eastern Front developers and mappers - due to the fact they are already part of the team. While creating your map, you have to stick to following rules:

  • Your map has to fulfill the Eastern Front mapping rules!
  • Your map should have the aim to be a competitive map (2 players) with a size not below 256x256 and not above 384x384.
  • Your map should offer an at least decent visual quality.
  • The scenario on which your map is based should be related to the Eastern Front of World War 2.
  • Maps should only be created by single mappers! Group projects won't be taken into consideration.
  • You may keep the community posted about progress on your map. Feel free to create a topic in the Mapping Section. Use a prefix ([CONTEST]) in the topic name to let the community identify your map as submitted to the contest.
  • Once you consider your map finished, upload it and link it in a PM to one of the Head Mappers (Mystic-Car or MaxiKing6) who will then pass it on to the jury.
  • Closing date is the 28th February, 2013.

The winner will receive following prices:

  • Access to Ostheer closed beta
  • His/her map being added to the official Ostheer map pool
  • Optional promotion to the "Mapper" position to be able to support the campaign development

The jury consists of all Eastern Front developers and balancers.

Have fun mapping!
Best regards,

MaxiKing6, Eastern Front Head Mapper

Impressive video. Many Ostheer units showcased in it

Om Nom Nom Nom
"Panzer-Guppy ready for battle!"
"Ha Ha Ha! We have the ZEAL!"
"Grenadiers! Fall In!!"

The current 6 player one was very disappointing tbh (lack of apartment urban residential areas and no river/bridge)

Wrong. It's finished already! :P

The new one doesn't offer a bridge either (there was no bridge across the Volga..). You will find some residential areas though.

Pretty darn cool! I was just wondering what happened to you guys.

And I see that you guys put in a Flammenpanzer! :D

"These new recruits are the caca!"
"Our tanks are far better than that cheap Allied scheisse!"
"Screw this weapon, man!"

Simply beautiful work all around; the commitment to historical accuracy in regards to the maps and units and equipment is worthy of accolades! I don't think that the crew making cohII will even live up to it!  If you need any work done programming wise I am fluent with Javascript and have some time off!

That was a pretty awesome video! Might i ask what the song was?

Were any maps taken from Red Orchestra 2? Such as Spartanovka, don't get me wrong i'm sure this was a real place a battle happened. I'm just wondering if the idea is from Red Orchestra 2.

"I am a crack shot!"
"Heart or head either way Jerry's dead!"
"Don't worry, we're basically bulletproof!!!"

I believe the original inspiration for the map was taken from Red Orchestra, and when you play it back over, you'll see just how similar they are!

Oh, and the background track is Requiem for a Dream. Six and a half minutes of perfection!

hy all,

a nice event youve started here and Id like to wish all the mappers good luck on their job!
I dont think Ill be a part of it since my (WIP) 2vs2 map is a little bit to big (480x480) to match the rules....

hoping for great maps though

We need a Reichstag/Berlin centre map, or Seelow Heights. Hopefully the contest winner will do one of those.

Good list of maps, I hope they're as fun to play as they look, my only qualm is the music used in the video.

What a fail for me...wow...I had this mod since you guys released it, wow.

But in that case, for the contest, can we hope for a Sevastopol map?
