Ostheer Defenses

I think that defenses should be an important part of the Ostheer faction. While being strong, strategic, and unique -- they should also be balanced. This is just a quick proposal and I may change it later. I read up about German defenses, and these are based around fortifications actually used on the EF.

Basic Defenses:
-Sandbags
-AT Obstacles (like Tank Traps, Mines)
-Inf. Obstacles (like Barbed Wire)

Resource Securing:
-Observation Post (built out of anything they could find, timber, stone, bricks, etc; secures resources, can also garrison an infantry squad for extra protection)
-Upgrade to Fortified OP (loses ability to garrison infantry, secures more resources, gains health bonuses, and an mg with short range and 360 turret movement (like a pillbox); maybe about 50-100 muni?)

Defensive Structures:
Built by Pioneers or other specialized units, they're expensive.
-Dugout (similar to a British gun emplacement, can be remanned if the units inside are taken out, essentially just a trench until upgraded, after upgrade it loses the ability to garrison)
-Upgrade to MG42 Dugout (MG42 facing one direction)
-Upgrade to Flak AA Dugout (stationary flak gun, can shoot at infantry and aircraft)
-Upgrade to Mortar Dugout (standard mortar pit, similar to British one, nothing special)
-Gun Emplacement (small fortification, can garrison and ungarrison one AT gun (like the Pak-38) or mobile artillery piece (like nebelwerfers/leFH) at a time; simply provides extra cover for the gun)

Feste Plätze:
These are stations set-up by infantry in houses and buildings.
-Field Barracks (allows training of basic infantry, also reinforcement)
-Medic Station (triages, heals units with individual upgrade at station)
-Repair Station (like the repair bunker, just some pioneers that repair nearby tanks and vehicles)

Feel free to share ideas, criticism, improvements, whatever. Maybe we can decide who can build what (unit wise, like pioneers, or basic infantry). Or how much each structure would cost.

Very good idea. I like the idea of the pillbox with a smaller AT gun. I believe that in addition to the regular MG nest, AT guns, etc.. there should be some sort of stationary artillery. Possibly a 88 that can be fired at marked targets. This of course being surrounded by sandbags and ammo crates.
Also I would like to see possibly and AT dugout with camouflage. It would be quick and easy to build and would house the standard CoH German Pak gun or maby a larger 76mm. Also this building would have a clocking ability when not in direct enemy line of sight similar to original pak guns but it would automatically cloke.

add 10.5 cm leFH 18M howitzer as standard artillery for ostheer, it was one of the most widely used artillery piece by Germans in ww2 and could do some serious effort in defense of ostheer so it would be nice if u put this into game i think it should be accessible without choosing any special doctrine it could  cost the same like US howitzer maby little more if it will be fortified with sandbags and stuff like that.

I would not use so much defenceobjects for a mobile "blitzkrieg" army. Perhaps a bunkerd 3,7cm Pak 36 Heeresanklopfgerät and a MG-Box, but not so much more!

It would be cooler if the ostheer could use weapsons like a howitzer ( LeFh 18 or sFh 18 ) and PAKs/FLAK ( like 8,8cm Scheunentor or 8,8cm Flak 36 ) in a mobile way ( pulled by crew ;) ).

Or the Ostheer will use more Sturmgeschütze ( StuG III, Brummbär, Marder II, Ferdiandt ) and things like that to defend their lines.
May the force be with you.

I know they're a blitzkreig army, but after Stalingrad they essentially went on the defensive. :P

My thinking is that, we should make these defenses pretty expensive, and available more in mid-game.

Sure. After Kursk the Wehrmacht wasnt able to fight more offensive like BUT when i think they havent so much time to build a bunkerlines or think like that so i think defense like trenches and some light weaponemplacments would be better, because the mainweapon of defence in this time was ( in my opinion ) the Stumrgeschütz.

If you want defense, i think that you could better work with the idea of the festen Plätze/Festungen ( Fortress ).
Perhaps it is possible to make more out of the houses and building on a map ^^

perhaps pioners could fortify buildings or usual buildings could be upgraded to be as strong as headquarters or something like that  ;)
