Sharing ways to mod Company of Heroes
« on: September 01, 2009, 08:42:30 PM »
Hello EF team,
I am from CoH: Modern Combat and I would like to suggest a mutual agreement for our mods to work in sync and help each other out with various OE codding and tutorials that we have developed internally. I am not sure what finds you have found but it would be a great addition to both teams if we shared our findings and ultimately made the process of Modding CoH very quick. We could both sign agreements to not publicly release tutorials or any guides unless under agreement from both parties and no who is acknowledged.

I seriously believe that this could be the start of something big for both teams. I hope you consider my proposal.

Thank you,
Darkbladecr

We have all been watching Modern Combat intently, and are fairly excited to see it in action.

However, most of the team are currently focusing all their modding efforts to push for the closed beta release. Maybe when some of the inevitable pressure from this stage of development clears we will take you up on your offer.

I am also the lead developer on the Pacific Thunder mod. I think this type of agreement would be perfect between developers of Conversion mods, EF, MC, PT, Zombie. Mods which are more focused on Skins and slight Stat changes dont need it so much. But our mods are more of a challenge and what I have seen of your mods actually made me want to found Pacific Thunder, and now six months later look where we are.

Darkblade. Count me in on signing that agreement if you wish me to, I am more than happy if we make any discoveries. We arent that clever but we are damn well giving it a good go with what Relic has given us.

I am up for it if you want the Pacific Thunder team, obviously though, we arent as valuable to you as the EF team. :)

Well, Zombie's already working with MC and PT (hi guys :P)

Its just a matter of agreeing to full disclosure in regards to methods.

Thread has been moved to Relic News for a more general audience and to see how many mods are interested in forming this agreement:

I would think that this is a good way for smaller mods to steal the ideas that bigger mods have done. I mean Eastern Front has 12 updates and so far Modern Combat has 5 and Pacific Thounder has 1 (and three press releases)
This could be seen as a good thing for small mods (with only several people making them) And some what bad for bigger mods like Eastern Front since all the hard work that your people did can be takin away by a smaller mod.

If you are claiming that your hard work will be taken without any acknowledgments, then you are gravely mistaken. We are a community not a game development team. And as a community we are supposed to help each other out...

Eastern Front isn't actively hiding techniques from anyone. It is entirely down to the individuals who are skilled and knowledgable in that sector whether or not they would be happy to take the time to explain their findings.

Yes but what I mean is that smaller mods will get allot more help than a mod with much more people in it.

@Darkbladecr I just want to ask, do you ever make a question to one of as elsewhere i.e. relicforums ,and we refuse to answer ? Personal I answer to every PM or any post on my thread there , and I'm also helping other mod teams with graphics , also as far as I know all our team members doing the same , So your question according to my opinion is wrong.
The only thing that I will never do is to reveal anything about WIP of EF because this is not my work to do.  ???
