So after a day of planning and slaving I thought I'd leave you guys and gals a little teaser of my next project.



This is only a very early stage shot of the minimap, and believe me, there's plenty more to do! My aim before the end is to have dense forest and farmland, flooded, with as much mud as humanly possible!

Anyways, more updates are coming!

Drekplaats was the original inspiration, it has to be said! And am I the only person who can see this map being a pet hate amongst the community? As much as I enjoy complex maps, they are nasty against players who just love to grief (I'm looking at you, partisans).

As for there being plenty of flanking positions, I can't deny it! However while I'm working on it, I am aiming for 5 main choke holds (considering this is a 6 player map, that should be no sweat). These locations are staggered diagonally across the map from Northwest to Southeast, two of which will have primarily heavy cover, another 2 with medium cover and the final, central one with negative (roadways).

Of course cover will be distributed everywhere (as fairly as possible), but I'm trying to allocate densities at certain areas, to prevent the map from looking like an utter clusterfuck.

qft. swamp maps dont make a difference to me though, i suck in all climates and biomes XD

If it helps, the visibility will also be atrocious! Nothing like a little heavy rain to get a game going.

Now, I was supposed to have some more screenshots for you guys, but after looking at the minimap again, apparently twelve hours of work seems to have made practically no difference to the overhead view! So, once all of the objects and grass has been placed and the map is generally fleshed out, I'll post again.

If you create a good sector layout this map could have potential to be awesome, Eastern Front does not have any swampy maps yet. However you have to make sure that there are enough sectors captureable without going through the water all the time. Having to cross water all the time makes the gameplay quite sloooow and static, which is not good.

The layout I've gone for with this map is that there is always another way around. It will take longer, and probably put you on an exposed roadway, but you are never forced to use the water.

So anyways, here are the images as promised!

As usual, my apologies for the sub-par quality of the pictures, and the fact that the weather is not the same as it will be in gameplay. As you can imagine, heavy rain makes for poor screenshots!
So this topic is now listed as "finished", but if you see anything that you would like changing I will be able to edit it! I'll pretty much be spending the next few days changing the territory layout anyway!

While I was working on the AI markers, I happened to find this view and just had to take a screenshot.



It may be floodland, but it's pretty floodland.

Give a link to maxi or walki, we as balancers can test it in the internal sandbox then together with the other maps and give feedback like with the other maps which are under construction atm. Also makes it easier to add as official EF map in the next patches. :)
