Historical AI Commanders for SP campaign
« on: May 06, 2012, 02:51:54 PM »
When this mod gets  the Single Play Campaign mode on line it will be possible to use and select specific Commanders for use by the AI. Guderian, Manstein Zhukov Timoshenko ... even Vinegear Joe Stillwell could be programmed. The programming isn't hard. The hard part is in determining what aspects of a particular commanders military abilities or style should be included in the AI. That's where you come in. Select one or two (preferably one axis one Soviet), Commanders you would like to fight against in a campaign setting. include with your selection the characteristic You believe constitute that commanders game profile. These parameters include but are not limited to Aggressiveness, initiative, quartermaster skills, political skills, Operational Approach, etc. I will compile the information and work from there. From a practical approach the choices you will have for SP_Campaign mode will be Normal, Hard, Commander 1, Commander 2.

I am willing to bet CoH2 will not provide this sort of feature. ;)

I highly doubt every single campaign mission will have a unique general, even if it is possible. Not only is it a lot of work but it just seems weird and will require different story lines (IMO).

The new COH2 should not be the basis of what this mod should do from here on forth. "Just because COH2 do such and such EF must now do something dramatically different so that this mod won't look like its copying or its repetitive." is kinda of a not so good mentality IMO. SO what if we are similar? EF came up with some pretty good ideas  ;)

You are correct when you play a campaign you set the difficulty level at the outset. It is possible. I am doing the work. No storylines need be changed. An assault on the Judenaase is an assault on the Judenaase. I was hoping you might have a Commander or two to suggest instead of scoffing persiflage.

You want some good commanders?

Ivan Konev (commander of the 1st Ukrainian Front which assaulted Berlin)
LT.General Vasily Badanov (tank commander during Stalingrad)
Senior Sergeant Yakov Pavlov (Commander of Pavlov's House during the battle of Stalingrad)
LT.General Vasily Chuikov (I'm sure you know who he is)
Captain Vasily Zaitsev (You know who he is beyond a doubt XD)
Ivan Bagramyan (One of the greatest and most calculating generals the Soviets ever had, serving from 1921 (or so) until 1968)

Want any others?

Interesting list. It should do for starters. I had to look up Ziatsev but when I did i recalled the 800 yd shot anecdote. A sniper is too low on the operational level to use but if I were going to use one Roza would be my choice. I am half tempted to use a serjeant's combat skills but I will probably work with more prominent figures. Konev and Zuikov are both good choices. I don't know Bagramyan at all. have to look him up.
