Artillery Fire Base
« on: January 27, 2012, 10:35:54 PM »
In my use of the artillery fire base I've found it to be a bit of a poor investment in comparison to other units; mainly lots and lots of tanks. Being able to only build one is part of it, along with its generally poor accuracy; I'd much rather go propaganda and get Katushyas than build a firebase. So I was thinking that to make the firebase a useful weapon and perhaps make the Urban Warfare doctrine more appealing something could be added for Urban Warfare that lets the player build 3 artillery firebases rather than just 1. It'd be called "Direct Fire Support" or something else suitably dramatic. It would give an Urban Warfare player a serious long range firepower upgrade which Urban Warfare sort of lacks; while the KV-2/SU-122 are nice they're close range guns. If Panzer Elite can get 3 Hummels, which outmatch any single artillery firebase quite easily, it only seems balanced that the Soviets would get heavy artillery as well. It also fits into Urban Warfare Doctrine since in numerous instances of urban combat the Soviets would use artillery pieces in a "on map" direct fire role.

Soviets don't need a firebase at all if you ask me and we won't start on converting Urban Doc into a artillery doc... compared to the other factions the soviet firebase lacks in accuracy but it has a even greater range than a 25 pounder with super charge rounds and deals a lot of damage. Also the randomness of the artillerys shells is a big advantage. It covers a bigger radius than a generic artillery cannon.

While I agree that the firebase comes too late, it is too late to discuss it and if given a change implement it for this patch too XD... I think we can discuss about the firebase on the balance section for the next patch.

Agreed with BB here, we will investigate the Firebase after the next patch of EF is released.

I agree except with that they dont need any firebases. One Howitzer is ok and enough. Also the accuracy of Howitzer increases when you have sight. Soviets have enough arty. They have heavy mortars and Command-Squad arty. Doctrinal they have Katyusha and GoW.

oh deleted it already, because you will see for yourself ;)

@topic

more than 1 arty base is far too much. Also it comes at the same time as Guards.

mortar, heavy mortar, arty emplacment, CS arty, doctrinal arty, .... thats enough imo.

I don't quite understand what you even have against this ability. I've written thesis papers on why it should stay for christ sake and we didn't even take a vote on it.

Can I get said thesis paper? Sounds interesting to have an entire essay on way a Unit in a video game doesn't need a certain ability ;D :P
