Weekly Game Night
« on: December 25, 2011, 10:07:22 AM »
Since 1.5 games are rather rare these days and with the 1.6 release looming, it might be best to assign a specific day where everyone can come online, chat through a specified channel, use mumble etc. to play some games. Please choose the day of the week it would best suit you to play a few games every week. We can make this a regular night. If this attracts a few people, we can eventually split it up into different brackets for different skill levels but for now everyone will be included together to get this thing rolling. You are allowed to change your vote if your availability shifts and you also get 2 votes, for first and second preference. I would like as many of the community to vote as possible.

Please also post to say your first and second preference, and possibly also your timezone.
If you get into an argument with me, you're wrong.

Friday Night-Fight Night has a nice ring to it. Friday and Saturday seem to be some free days. Sunday is alright too but some can be interrupted with religious observation :P

Killar, this is just finding out the best time to do it. We will start this once the patch is out.

Even if the patch isnt out yet a potential early game night may give new players a chance to get better and grow accustomed to SU tactic b4 an official tourney comes out. Even if 1.6 does change essential things at least new players will be used to SU :P

I can play friday and saturday

Fridays and Saturdays for me too, so I can play after I get off work / school, but these days are just very loose estimates.

TBH though, I think the only way to solve the lack of quality games hosted is to do more publicity efforts and attract a significantly larger competitive player base.  Video games, including CoH, is a leisure activity, and people play (at least for me) when they get a chance to play, rather than having specified times / days to play.  Even on Fridays and Saturdays, its really hard to get into EF the specific time the matches occur, since everyone lives in different time zones, and things like RL activities come into play.

When the games are actually being hosted during Friday / Saturday for example, maybe some people cannot make it because of work, etc.  That just means they'll have to wait a whole week before being able to have a chance to play EF again.  That really sucks.  People want to access their game and be able to play it to the full extent whenever they want.

Do you suggest we do some advertisement on other websites Yauz?? We do have that money that we donated but I pretty sure that's for server pay only.

We need advertising on CoH fansites, we need the Ostheer, we need 1.6, and we need like 2-3 shoutcasts a week (to drill the fact into people's heads that EF is competitive) featuring competitive play on competitive EF maps, and we need it fast.  And we need to get rid of noob things like the RMC, revert the AI back to vCoH, and either fix or eliminate noob EF maps.  It all sounds drastic, and a lot of the devs will disagree with this, but this is the way to get things running again, and that's the truth..

To each man his own opinion Yauz I personally like the new AI whom I never fight anyway :P.

The RMC was unfortunately never a 100% solution to the problem that is the Brits, but it should remain for those who don't want to play as vBrits.

A noob map is a matter of opinion Yauz, you love maps that are pretty much mirror images of themselves for both sides, Kotlenikov (don't recall how to properly spell it in English) being your type of map, I just happen to like Prague and Vienna, I find them near perfectly balanced.

2-3 shoutcasts a week is something that the top players should produce, but there should also be a noob shoutcast for people like myself who aren't quite as skilled and who make mistakes to drill in the point that this mod is for everyone not just for the pros (which is what drove me away from EIR) but for people who are just starting out as well.

im good for EF Fridays!

anyways, i think yauz might be right about EF advertisements.

shoutcasts would be awsome too.

i dont think that we should eliminate noob maps however, its a funny thought, but i dont think it will make a difference on getting EF back into style.

i dont know what changes there were to the AI
