Tales of Valor, any good?
« on: July 16, 2009, 12:59:34 PM »
I know this came out quite a while ago but having just borrowed this from a friend and got around to playing through most of it, I've gotta say its a bit dissapointing.

I'm not really sure where Relic were trying to go with it, the Tiger Ace campaign is a lot of fun, but after that the other mini campaigns just don't feel like CoH.

Running round with the uber paratroopers shooting everything in the face just doesn't feel at home with the game I've been playing for the last 3 years. And the added macho airborne voiceover actually had me and my mates laughing  ;D

Point is, I suppose, it feels very...hollywood, and not in a good way.

Also, the direct fire feature, while quite cool when in a tank, feels abit tacked on, and isn't anyway near as good as how its done in Soldiers/Men of War etc.

The new units are a nice addition, and being able to swap out different units for skirmishes is pretty cool, although I normally only use the Hellcat, the Staghound (because I cant stand the command tank) and the Geshutzwagen.

I dunno what do you guys think of it?
I mean its not bad, just not a patch on the last two  :)

Cheers

They need to make the battles bigger & better, i cant stand thse 20 meters away battles any longer, we need at least 100 meters or more & with a least more than a hundered men!!! I want battles to look good & give you a hard on, not these close encounters, I appreiciate their hard work but we need bigger battles in scale & size. I rest my case :P

Finally, after many months of ignoring the Ukrainian market by a localizer, today I bought this game. I'm disappointed. Campaigns were so short. I was not expecting this! Within one and a half of hour I finished them all! It's not worth my 81 ₴. The Relic should not have to make this addon. It shook their reputation.

i agree with you completely.. Tales of valor actually looks more as a mod then eastern front which incorporates an ENTIRE new faction, and not just new units, and some minminicampaigns which you can play through in about 1 hour, and then im talking about all the campaigns together.
And on the subject of the command tank.. I also used to hate the thing and i always built one and then drove it to the enemy just to lose it and have extra pop for more firefly's.. but now I LOVE THAT THING
it improves your cromwells and firefly's drastically, they shoot quicker, they ALWAYS hit and get even better with a vetted command tank!

Has something changed latelly?
As I remember CCT dosnt give accuracy bonuses but when you park youre tanks near a CCT (and dont try to move them to flank) British tanks dont loose accuracy becouse they are not moving.
Try stopping youre Cromwell before it shoots. Fire->retreat backwards->stop->fire->retreat backwards micro works well vs shreck blobs.

All vechicles exept Fireflies also get gun range and spotting bonuses.

Yeah, ToV was a "waste of time"... tiger ace was fun, causeway and falaise pocket not at all. In tiger ace you have a super tiger that owns all, it has a lot of abilities and upgrades :)... just the camo and the V1 abilities were missing ;).

In causeway you have US über paratroopers that pwns all, with also a lot of upgrades, like if by themselves weren't good. They become as strong that if they fight Chuck Norris he will have to obliterate them with one finger(normally I guess he didn't need it).

In Falaise pocket you have to resist waves of vehicles, tanks and rangers, and in elevated difficult you hardly can achieve the first two medals. Falaise is a quite a challenge if you play it for the medals.

Tales of Valor gave us some hours of fun at a high cost, besides the price, the delicate balance was broken again and I dare to say never fixed since then. It was a prelude to CoH Online and their heroes.

But ToV is pretty good to buy if you are new to the game because you get Americans and British without buying two games.

But without US, UK and PE campaigns its hard to learn how to play.
...unless you watch some replays.
http://www.youtube.com/user/HellFox83 is where I learned the basics of MP games.

yeah i don't know the stats and stuff. But in my experiences my tanks get alot better with a cct nearby.. don't know about if it gives accuracy bonuses or whether it gives other bonuses, but i know i won games, because of a cct+2firefly combo.

The only thing I have a problem with is the change in dialogue. Ive noticed a few changes such as the Germans sounding a tad less aggressive. Perhaps its just me?
I think, therefore I am...
I learn, therefore I advance...
I destroy, that I may endure.
