Word of Tanks - a mod for the sake of details
« on: October 07, 2011, 09:27:01 PM »

Hello and good evening CoH:EF community,

seemingly, more and more CoH players are interested in wargamings "world of tanks". I was player it over the past semester holydays and a lil bit longer.

In this time, i created a mod and other, in my eyes really interesting threads in the world of tanks forum. Its a great game, but its balance finally made me quit the game.
Nevertheless, my mod which is about historical accurancy of these is for the latest update. I reworked pretty much any contour of the game, and the mod does have a certain value of popularity in the WOT community now.

What i reworked is,
(1) contoursize
(2) datails
(3) coloring mistakes
(4) background and shadow issues

For example, on the T29 half of the cannon was simply cutted down, the IS-series was oversized or the german JT and Ferdinand were undersized.

To show some progress..

The current version is v0.6 and it is for WOT patch 0.6.7.
You can download it in the last post of me (thor_hammerschlag)
in my thread. (for the reason of a forum bug, i cant edit my first post)

While i made these contours, i made futher discoveries, you can visit this thread which is about a lil bit more than contour size, here.

Also, if you like my work, i wouldnt mind if you could give me a +1!
Thanks for reading, and see you online ;)

Best regards,

Venoxxis

Thanks :D
update: the links should work for anybody now.

@cephalos
after checking the contours and comparing them to their reallife relatives i found out that not only the contours were oversized.

I found out that certain soviet tanks were oversized to make them look more frightening. And on the other hand, german tanks were undersized for some reason. Seriously, this kind of acting for a game developer is just redicilous. Not even mentioning balance.

I did play mostly american tanks -up to T10. So i got an idea of balance, and i tell you that its simply plain bad.

Best regards,
Venoxxis

Yea that sounds quite obvious.
But i mean, this is so damn lame after more than one year of testing and balancing with a active community. Its almost to lame to be true.

I mean, the EF team didnt oversize thier tanks (expect the almighty SU-76 :D) because they like them most :D

Downloaded the pack, I have to admit that you did great work! Sure, it's just a minor change, but makes the game more realistic and that's the goal it's supposed to achieve. They should recruit you as 2D artist and pay you.. ;)

Thank you maxiking ;) haha :D

I did like to work with them, so i put a lot of effort in them. I dont think that this kind of game developers could ever agree that their game doesnt work the way it should.
I hope my mod does take at least a bit bias out and replaces them with historical accurancy.

Best regards,

which one do you mean exactly?
mostly these kind of resizing was done with ingame comparsions and with drawings of the vehicle. (The last patches brought in only oversized contours, they were even resizeable with a 0.9x multiplication of the pixels)
I used lots of sources, a forum member even send me pictures of the new tanks of the next beta, so i could prepare the contours already ;).

Some time ago i play with WOT ...
First point of the gamemakers ... action, mass of tank "gameplay" & not very accurate historical accurate of the simulation ...
This things must make the game an easy to play & popularity ...
BUT, some point of view of players can be inspected & can take a chance ...

I mean how did you fixed tanks like E-50, Object, T29, etc. From where you knew their sizes?

@sturmovik - yes, there is still way to less community support. In other words it really sucks.

@cephalos

-E50 was made by ingame comparison. No blueprints exist of this vehicle. This is why i had to take the ingame vehicle as guideline.

-Object704 is based on the IS3, thus compareable measurements.
(the ingame vehicle may be a bit bigger)

-T29 was build, and measurements exist!

I hope that clears it up :D
