KV-85
« on: September 17, 2011, 01:20:01 AM »
I dont know if anyone brought this up when the unit was discussed but should the KV-85 be a buildable unit since there were only 148 ever made as a stop gap until the IS series was produced. Im just curious why you guys allowed it anyway.

Then we might as well exclude the Pershing from the game, which we won't do, as I'm sure you are aware they barely even served during WW2.

Also the KV-85 might have been a stop-gap unit but technically so was the Marder 3, unless you also want to ban it from the game?

The KV-85 may have been limited but it did in fact serve on the Eastern Front and I'm pretty sure at least a few of them made it through the war.

I can list some of reasons:
a) Because we have a model.
b) Because it fits the progression of the T-34/76 to T-35/85(KV-1 to KV-85) and replacing only the T-34/76 for KV-1 would be weird.
c) Because its cool.
d) Because was used in the Eastern Front.
e) Because Company of Heroes is the perfect game for those tanks that were made in low numbers during ww2. Soviets are not the only ones with these type of units :P.
f) Players like it and also suggested it.
g) We considered the lower number that were produced, hence, it's a reward unit.
h) Because we wanted :P.

Ostwind only saw 45 built, might as we'll remove that for the game too.

Don't worry guy, i have sometimes similar problems with people ;).

Only one thing i don't like in KV-85. It's from MoW game, so it doesn't look like CoH model, which is better. But i hope so that BurroDiablo or other modeler will make better model in future.

In terms of size, it was larger than an IS3 as it was based on the KV hull. Both KV85 and IS3 are superbly accurate models unlike most COH ones, so in truth they are better.
Alas, if you understand anything about COH you should know by now that units are added because of how cool they look and what functionality they could offer in a faction. KV1/85fitted the reward unit bill perfectly.

No, but generally when people bring something like this up concerning the production numbers of whatever vehicle, it is implied that they want it changed in some way. I like to remind people that quoting production numbers means very little.

What intrigues me is why such a useless topic concerning the KV85, which was built in legit numbers already, is put in the balance section...

As the OP question was answered and this post is on the wrong section as pointed out by Yauz, I'll lock this :).
