OK, found it. To save others some time, in the launcher:

  • Click "Settings", untick "Auto update", click "OK"
  • Close the launcher
  • Start launcher again

Steps 2 and 3 shouldn't be necessary. The launcher should just stop waiting for the server to respond.

Edit: Having a "Cancel" button would be even better. People only want to skip searching for updates once, not turn it off forever.

finally my favorite strat (urban) is fixed! I never used urban in pvp games cause i though it wasnt that effective and there were bugs but now i think i will use it more

Use the grey jelly bit in your head. It's not hard to deduce that...

... if there is no mention of the Ostheer release before the patch and there is no massive build up towards the release of the Patch, it's very likely the Ostheer will not be contained inside....

... on the other hand if we have finished the Beta, revealed a release date, shown video's of all the units, ran an Ostheer Shoutcast, rounded the patch number up to a big fat '2.0' and had a lot of buzz about the new Ostheer faction being released in the next patch... yeah, hopefully you get the idea.
