Earthquake!
« on: August 23, 2011, 10:12:51 PM »
Anyone living on the east coast today: Did you feel that earthquake? 5.8 hit Washington area around 1:52 PM. It was a large but weak-ish earthquake, if you've never been in one you might be startled. It hit all the way from Toronto to New York to Washington to my small town I'm living in, and to Charlotte and rumors say Atlanta.

Check it out:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2011-08-23/Earthquake-rocks-East-Coast/50107542/1

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=37.9360,-77.9330(M5.8+-+Virginia+-+2011+August+23+17:51:04+UTC)&t=h&z=7&iwloc=A

Personally I did not feel it. I was walking in a ground-level area getting some Coffee from a local shop, but I hear stories from my cousins in New York whom live in apartments high up having their things moved around, even cousins in the island (Long Island) having their house shaken.

For anyone whom is concerned about the US disregard it. There's some mass panic here but I think we're just attention hungry. Nothing significant, just something pretty cool.

5.8? This isn't so bad man, I guess...  :-\ Fortunatelly it wasn't under the Atlantic's bottom, because this could hit hard East Coast.

Yes, 5.8 is minimal compared to those devastating earthquakes in other parts of the world, it's just that there is no fault line on the east coast, creating a bit of a panic. My twitter feed is filled with "OMG WORLD IS GOING TO END" and I go "STFU it's a 5.8..." (This earthquake was formed due to a "Fault Scar" which is located under Virgina and was a fault line over 300 million years ago.)

When the Ostheer come out the only matches you will see online will be Soviet/Soviet vs Ostheer/Ostheer.

Apparently that is supposed to hit the coast here soon. We act like we're the center for disaster (And sometimes we do have tragic events...like Katrina) but all in all we're big cry babies :P

When Japan had it's nuclear disaster/earthquake/tsunami they initially denied foreign aid but later accepted it when the Nuclear plant seemed to go haywire. The US is still crying over New Orleans :P

Felt a aftershock at about 4 AM. It was pretty epic actually. I live near a train depot but this was no train.

Nothing too damaging I find this pretty awesome :D
