An weird "rumor" about soviets in WWII
« on: July 29, 2011, 05:54:44 PM »
Ok I have no idea where I heard this but here you go; I heard that in WWII the Soviets, while still in the area that there was snow they attacked German infantry by skiing down and throwing molotovs at them and I just wanted to know if there are any truth to this story.
And I feel kinda shy, so many good topics here and me with an simple question...

Welcome to the forums! It's not a silly question and I promote you to post more :) We like to hear your opinions and thoughts.

I've never heard of that before but I know there were divisions of troops in multiple armies that used skis to get around. I dunno what the credibility in your idea is but I have no idea if it's true or not.

Sorry I am unable to help but I hope you enjoy the forums :D

Thank you Cranialwizard!
I don't have that much information of World War II so I won't be of much help but from the other topics I see that I'll learn a lot in no time ;)
And I also suck at CoH so again I will need to learn some tricks haha!

And pariah, yep we fought! We were not as powerful but we fought!
And curiosity:There was some military specialist, an really smart man here in Brazil, that said that B.O.P.E. our kinda Special Forces kinda army veterans that I have no fear in discussing that they are the best Infantry Urban Combat Team in the world are capable of assaulting, and holding New York City for one week against the entire US army if they don't throw an nuke and if B.O.P.E. have 25% more members.Of course the government made him took that back and he kinda exaggerated but after WWII we've created an very, VERY powerful infantry  :D

The Finnish Made Great Use of Ski Troops. IT was fast, light and cheap. It worked surrounding the Soviet troops. The Finnish also used Cocktails, finding it easy to to a tank due to the already wearied out engine in the cold. I don't recall if the Soveits did any of this. You might have it mixed up with the Finnish.
The Russians think there sooo tough, wait till the Ostheer comes...

I remember actually seing old movie clips showing soviets during an attack going down for an hill with skies shoothing with smgs. So yes many sides used skies during the war.
However something I always have been woundering is. Did some side make use of iceskating? Myself I love iceskating and know you can go really fast with them too. Just for transporting I think it would work great for troop transporting ^^

I know, what I meant was an snowboard strapped with timed explosives, they would come downhill and when they want it to explode they would aim at the direction the snowboard would go,and then jump out of it.

Were the snowboard invented by then? XD And where the hell would he find snow in the Pacific? XD I would recommend Surfing instead!

And the iceskate would also work as close combat weapons? Hajaka :>
