SP 203mm Howitzer M1931 (B-4) for the 122mm Firebase
« on: April 15, 2011, 11:29:58 AM »
Just a suggestion here. Everyone is talking about rewards for the IS2 but the fact is it was the largest Tank the Soviets used in any numbers in WW2. I feel like we need a change of subject rather than the circular IS2 for IS3 debate.  ::)
Why not add the SP 203mm Howitzer M1931 (B-4) as a reward for the Firebase? This heavy howitzer was used throughout the war and was used a great deal in the street fighting in Berlin to blast German strong points. I realize however EF is not like the battle for Berlin and I don't think it would be good as an assult gun like the Stug 42. It could however be good as a heavy SPG. It could also be doctrine specific to the Breakthrough Doctrine as it is self propelled. It would however not be an SPG like the priest as historically was alot slower. It could however have the ability to direct fire one or two shells when vetted up like the 25pdr in Blitzkreig mod.
It could be able to move but have to lock down to fire. It could take about 20-30 seconds to pack up and move. Speed could be about the same speed as the Kingtiger, allowing it to support one offensive then move up to the next start line.
It could have the range of an un-supercharged 25pdr (i think thats less than the Firebase) making the mobility factor worthwhile on the larger maps.
The gun could be a call-in or it could be produced in the support barracks after the Tank hall is built. I have no idea what cost it should be but it probably should be hard capped at 2.
However I realize there would be the problem of providing a suitable model. WOT have made a 152mm howitzer as used on the B-4's sister gun the B-2. I know WOT have given permission for other mods to use their models as the Anti Japanese Mod showed. Maybe this gun could be mixed with a small tracked chassis (basically a larger Kettengrad) or the B-2 with the 152 Howitzer could be used instead if its too much trouble to make a 203mm model.
Again this is only a suggestion so lets have some mature debate rather than Hitler video's from Inglorious Bastards as much as i love that film!!! ;)

Didn't read the whole body, since there's no point to do it IMO  ;D
Why? - When was the last time you actually used that "firebase" in a competitive game? Did you win that game, and if "yes", then did it play any significant positive role for your cause, or did you build that thing after the tides were already turned to your inevitable advantage?
In short, the installation is nearly useless, so why even consider any sort of reward for it?

Well with respect IJoe if you don't read my post you can't have an informed opinion of what i'm trying to suggest. If you feel the firebase itself is useless then surely my idea of adding an alternative is very relevant? Or as its is less work then the firebase itself needs to be improved. I Have noticed that the firebase is not very useful, thats why i'm suggesting it is given an alternative like. As brits or whermacht i use nebels, priests 25pdrs not infrequently, the soviets were renowned for their heavy artillery and i feel there should be a at least desirable artillery piece for the soviets
Unlike yourself (i'm guessing) most of my COH friends play Blitzkreig and whenever i look for an EF game theyre all locked private games, this forces me to play lots of skirmishes where the firebase is more useful against unimaginative AI.
@Paciat yes i realise its not an SP like the priest. I probably didn't make myself very clear earlier by calling it an SPG :-[. However it is more similar to a slow mobile 25pdr that you would move a couple of times a match. Like all SP guns it still needed to set up in a defensive position. Hummels and priests couldn't just drive around randomly shooting shells every 5 minutes as they do in COH, they needed to be part of a battery with ammo vehicles and stationary rangefinding equipment.

Yeah sorry but I agree with my comrade here. useless suggestion

First firebases arent competitive and never used. And a SPG is just a bad idea and would never be used. Soviet artillery is katysusha, command, sniper and GoW, stick to that.

If you want an assault gun call in the ISU-152 it has a barrage ability after all

I dont see a need for this and am against it
Soviet is OP
