British Rifle grenades and slit trenches
« on: April 07, 2011, 07:23:25 AM »
As we all know, we can use grenades to clear out buildings, the americans can use their pineapples, the germans use incendiary grenades or stick grenades. This all cost munitions and work reasonably well. The British infantry section on the other hand seems to get this one time upgrade (called rifle grenades) which I am sad to say seems to make the squad worse!

The grenades fired off that thing never goes where you want it to go and even when it does it doesn't seem to do much damage.

The real headache begin when the Brits loss their slit trench and it's garrisoned by lets say Volksgrenadiers. The way to flush out defenders is with flame weapons correct. What happens if I don't pick royal enginers? How do I purge them out? Is there some other successful strategy?

Rifle grenades are great. I don't play British at all myself but I've seen replays and they seem to be like two free long-range pineapples every few seconds. Even against moving squads they seem to be quite accurate and when they do land dead on they do a lot of damage. They can even fire on the move!

You can scuttle your trenches after abandoning them by selecting them and double tapping the delete key. If British engis have a satchel charge or something they can throw that would probably work, or cloak some commandos as they plant a bomb on the trench.

Rifle nades are very good. They do immense damage when they do hit, and going close with volks means the squad is very likely to be completely wiped in one shot.

You should never lose a trench to the enemy. Always delete them if you're under threat.

Commandos have nades and demos to clear trenches. In fact, an angry strat is to leave an unmanned decoy trench somewhere and put a demo in it. Enemy squad gets in and boom, free squad kill.

Defend youre trenches then or dont build them at all. :P
Rifle nades accually do not replace granades, they replace flamethrowers. Marksman ability replaces granades.

My understanding is that rifle nades also gain accuracy with a lieutenant close by.

I never noticed that. :-\

Personally, i find Rifle Grenades to be a waste of money more than anything else. On a map with lots of buildings they can be good (since they're alright versus buildings), but 75 Munitions for an upgrade that takes 2 rifles off the squad, and gives them very inaccurate and slow-firing Rifle Grenades which do very little damage (compared to ability Grenades), and costs 35 Munitions to fire near-useless smoke, is really just a waste. :(

Much better off with a pair of Brens. ;D

I believe it's true that LTs increase rifle nade accuracy.

Rifle nades can shoot through shot blocking objects which can give you a tactical advantage on certain maps. The can potentially take out a volks/MG squad instantly. Smoke is useful because it has perfect accuracy. You can fire it immediately between yourself and an enemy MG and steamroll him without being suppressed. The is better than mortar smoke which can take awhile to actually land where you want it. They are definately a good investment and I usually get these first if my enemy gets WQ rather than piospam.

Its sad though.  Smoke in general is one of the more under used features of the game.  It brings a tear to my eye when someone disrespects its power.  Using smoke properly is like an art.  It can easily change the tide of suppression and bring annoyance to your enemies.

It's funny you say that, because i don't use smoke because it just seems near-useless. For example, with the Rifle Grenades you can shoot damaging grenades for free, or spend 35 Munitions on non-damaging smoke. And with Mortars, you can barrage the enemy with damaging rounds, or concealing smoke. Smoke just always seems to have better alternatives.

GodlikeDennis, could you provide some more detailed information about smoke? Does my infantry needs to be in cloud or they can stand behind it? What boni they get?

Smoke works both ways - Any units inside the cloud or on the other side of it will receive much less suppression and accuracy.

It's been already said: all projectiles passing through smoke get accuracy penalty, but that goes only for direct fire weapons, so 'nades, flamers, mortar shells, artillery etc. are not affected.

I think rifle nades actually is very useful when it use with another team equip with bren, the nades hurt as much as as they can and the bren finish what is left. AND the recon team kill the last man of enemy squad to prevent them reinforce later. That's my basic infantry blob, maybe some other guys use that tatic like me too.

The riflegrenade upgrade is worth the investment.

What you get: The capability for indirect fire.

- taking out occupied buildings without any damage.
- indirect fire harassment behind hedges, walls, buildings
- good support team
- the ability to use smokegrenades
- destroying presumptive mines locations

@trench problem

GodlikeDennis mentioned it already. They will think twice to use your trenches again. Mouse traps ftw ^^.
