Company Of Heroes on Steam
« on: March 04, 2011, 12:19:27 AM »
I have barely spent any time on Steam in the past, but i decided to look Company Of Heroes up on there, just because i'm bored, i guess. And i noticed that there doesn't seem to be a way to buy the Anthology or Tales Of Valor on there. The options are just vanilla Company Of Heroes, and the Gold Edition. Does anybody know if there's a way to get the Anthology and/or Tales Of Valor on Steam? Does anybody here have any experience at all with Steam? Just curious, is all...

Because it says "Packages that include this game" Tales of Valor isn't part of that ;).

You can use the search bar to look for "company of heroes" and will get this:
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?snr=1_4_4__12&term=company+of+heroes

or use this direct link xD

http://store.steampowered.com/app/20540/

If you can't find Tales of Valor perhaps isn't available in your country(which i doubt :-\).

I personally wouldn't get a game i can get without Steam on Steam, which i consider is the most retarted creation in the history of comps.

I personaly dislike Steam, it literaly tethers your game to having access to the internet. I have been playing games like Civ and other such game perfectly fine without Steam. My mom who has been playing Civ since the first one back in Ukraine, cannot play Civ 5 because she doesn't have a internet connection on her desktop at home and cannot install Steam. She doesn't need Inet there, and if she needs a quick access she goes on the laptop.

Games like CoD, CoH, Red Orchestra should not be bought off it, but so many good games are thethered to this useless service. I would much rather walk 2 miles or get in the car and go to the mall to buy a PC game on CD, it takes forever to download a game esppecaily the bigger ones, where if you have the disk it takes a max of 2 hours (depends on game and comp of course). With this crappy service I am forced to attach it to Steam, and i need a inet connection to get on and play Napoloen: Total War, Left 4 Dead, Civ5, and the list goes on. Great games, but perma-attached to the Inet. Not everyone likes listening to noobs whinning. Plus the Valve anti-hack system isn't as reliable as Punkbuster or other such more efficeint software.

The bonuses of it are the community. Can't say i see any other ones

I agree. That's why i bought the retail version of the games i consider worth it, like assassins creed series, dead space, crysis and fear...

What i don't like about steam is that you can't play without internet connection, and you know what i mean. Some days ago, i hadn't internet connection available and bought FEAR 2 retail version... bad choice, it uses Steam(i didn't know at that time) and i was unable to play because it needs to register on steam server...

You can't restore backups on offline mode too... is a mix between a bless and a curse.

Yes, i very much hate Steam as well. It's actually the only reason i got this Internet connection. I bought Crysis: Warhead, and was shocked and horrified that it needs this "Internet activation" shit, which i hadn't heard of at the time. So i took my computer down to the local computer shop (they're nice people there), and they hooked my computer up to their Internet connection so i could activate it. And i played through the game (very fun), and about 1 or 2 days later i was even more shocked and horrified to see that it needed to be activated again! And then i bought Aliens Versus Predator (2010), and found that that needed Steam as well! And although this game only needed to be activated once, and it runs without an Internet connection, i still had to go through this whole arduous process of downloading and installing Steam before i could install the game, and then it wouldn't let me play it without installing the updates! Fuck i hate Steam. All this fucking "D.R.M." shit is destroying P.C. gaming!

Anyway, that's enough of my useless ranting for now. I was actually looking to buy Company Of Heroes for someone, and wasn't sure if i should use Steam, or see if i can find it on Amazon, or what... Thanks for your responses, guys. :)

I bought company of heroes TOV only to play mods  ::)
Then i realized that you don´t need TOV, only to patch to the latest.
30€ for ****** TOV, which is shit btw. one month later COH gold edition which has all 3 games was only 10€ ...
