i looked around a bit and couldn't find a topic specific enough about this.

alright, so my friends and i are casual players, and we like to do comp stomps. in OF we were able to beat hard CPU's with relative ease. now i realize the AI is improved in EF, but we just get absolutely pounded vs normal wehr/PE AI, most specifically pure wehr on a map that doesn't have a choke point. with a choke we are normally able to hold them off until we have 3 katyushas and sufficient infantry + support to do some kind of push, but on open maps we get slaughtered. we normally run into these problems:

1. the initial motorbike/engineer/VG push. conscript + command squad get slaughtered by this. so we get support units but by the time they come they have..

2. stug + AT guns that outclass the support units of the russians

3. german tanks are superior vs russian armor and tank hunters. tank hunters get slaughtered by P IV's, and other vehicles never seem to get damaged engines and retreat to repairing engineers + MG before tank hunters can get their final shots off.

despite these units mostly working well in larger numbers it always seems like they come too late and we get overwhelmed. yeah we all suck at the game but we've tried so many unit compositions and nothing seems to change. any tips?

Since the A.I. have a rather large (as far as i can tell) resource boost, you should try to capture as much territory as possible to even the odds. That's really all i can suggest, since i haven't played as the Soviet Union...

Yes.

EF easy AI is the same as the vCoH normal AI, not getting resource boosts or unit power boosts. The harder AIs in vCoH get unit power boosts in addition to resource boosts. Harder AIs in EF only get a resource boost (though a more substantial one).

Also, wehr AIs are much stronger than other factions in EF because they have relatively few callin units (except stormtroopers) that the AI likes to spam so they actually get a well balanced army. Compare this to Russians spamming katyushas or Americans spamming airdropped AT for example. Overall the AI is much harder against Wehr, which sucks for teamgames when people drop. I actually think players should not leave an AI player when they drop.

A.I. was designed to work on wide maps so its difficult compared to chokepoint maps.
But the rule (vs A.I.) is similar. Just dig in around a high fuel point (Soviets also need ammo to tech up) till you get tanks. You just need more units to cover larger areas.

Easy British A.I.s get a production boost as well, but i think only at the very beginning of the game. I forget wether they do in Tales Of Valor or not...

ToV,VCoH and OF are no different if patched to the same version.

Yeah, well, Tales Of Valor was the latest version before Eastern Front, so yeah...

well thanks for the advice. i have had more success as of late, i can beat them on hard now but it's no easy task. i can't even imagine what it is like on expert.

I agree with Paciat. One of you ( you said that you play with your friends) should go straight ( don't build support center nor upgrade it - tanks, tanks, TANKS  ;D  ) to tank depot and then spam T-34. Using them in 3 or 4 in one place in one time can give you local domination. AI will stop attacking there, so next player(s) should dig in here heavily. Trenches, barbed wire combined with tanktraps ( to prevent destorying wire by PZIV or something similiar; Panther is quite problem, but that's why there should be some AT guns there). And so on until you get quite stable frontline. Then move tanks to another possition and repeat.

Of course they are. Even Panthers have to retreat. Just put a Zis for long range attack and 2 squads of tankhunters fro short range together and a panzer has to retreat
