Soviet infantry
« on: January 23, 2011, 05:33:14 PM »
As I started with soviet doctrines, I'm going to ask some change for soviet infantry. I do know that dev will not change everything because I suggest it, but at least maybe they will read it. Plus I want to have feedback concerning soviet infantry. So here we go.  :)

The Red Banner

Its maybe in my eyes the most silly thing in EF. I do know that EF is based on EatG movie. I do know that this mod is not about realism. But please, guy, take an eye on it.
It would be more logical if the command squad receive a red banner after upgrade. It would give some bonus to infantry squad witch are near the banner (contrary to vet bonus  :P). Its so silly, so awful when you see 2 or more strelky squad attacking, and 2 or more guy stupidly pointing their banner at the ennemy like god. One banner for the player is far enough!
Some people think that strelky are cool with the banner. I do respect but not share their point of view. Having multiple banner running around the fight like dumbass is not cool. Its not badass. It just kill the COH feeling. And it kill the coolness of upgraded strelky.  :'(

Strelky Upgrade

No, I'm not whining about the banner here  ;D
I only want to point out one detail. I would love to see SVT-40 in the squad after upgrade. As guard are leaded by a sergeant with ppsh, it would be cool if a sergeant holding an SVT-40 would lead the squad.

Guards

Again, some details.
The elite soviet infantry is issued with full SVT-40 from the beginning. It would be logical that, before the upgrade at the armoury, only 1 or 2 guys would be equipped with these rifles, and other come on the battlefield with mosin-nagant. After the upgrade, more would be equipped with SVT-40 (plus the sergeant leading the squad with a ppsh). I know they are the elite, but still, so much SVT-40 from the beginning is a bit too much IMO. Plus, everyone would see the difference between upgraded and not-upgraded guards.
A last thing: could you change the name for upgraded guards? "Assault guards" is kinda strange  ;D

Sturmovie ingenery

I'm frustrated with this unit. On one hand, its kinda cool to have assault ingeneers with armor and SMG. On the other hand, I do not want to pay 40 munition to have a squad that cant actually blow up bridge or buildings (only partisans can do that), and for only 3 men holding a weapons. The fourth guy with the mine-sweeper is getting on my nerves! No, seriously: everytime my squad was engaged, the last man was always the mine-sweeper holder, and since he cant knock the ennemy's head with ( ;D), he had to retreat. Moreover, I never had to use it to clear mines (unlucky?).
I would like to see the mine-sweeper (as well as the demolition charge) as an option for both ingenery unit after the armoury upgrade, and to have a full fighting sturmovie squad.

Well, thats all, I stop complaining about all these details. I just want some opinions (please, dont flame me lol).

 Regards :)

Perhaps the minesweeper should be an upgrade? like all the other faction's engineers do?

Apparently Stalin didn't like mine-clearing devices - He ordered the troops to just advance as if there were no mines there.

The built in minesweeper is actually very good, as are the squad using them. Sturmovie Ingenery are angry little bastards. Perhaps their satchels should be made to do more damage to bridges if it's possible? (without changing airborne ones)

Upgraded guards are actually called shock guards in the english release I think, which sounds cooler. Base guards wouldn't be good enough with mosin's. Although the upgrade doesn't really do much for them at the moment.

I've always thought the banner should be in the CS but I don't really care enough. RB strelky work well from a game PoV.

By the way, thank you for your well structured post. It's much easier to read than some others.

I think Sturmovies need the same explosive charge than partisans have. I wouldn't mind if they get both (satchel & explosives charges) xD.

I also think the guards that are on the field should become shock guards when the upgrade is researched, because the difference between them is not that great.

Its unfair that soviets have to choose a doctrine only to be able to destroy bridge.

Ops, in the french version they are called "Gardes d'Assaut" so i translate as it is... Sorry ^^"
As for guards: we could give them some mosin-nagant that could be more effective than those of conscript/ingenery/strelky. It would not really change the balance...  ???

Why worry?
They are ELITE!
Why can't they be armed better then the rest?

I mean, that the upgrade that you can purchase at the armoury would be justified.
