Re-crewing suggestions
« on: January 13, 2011, 02:08:16 AM »
This is my first post on a forum ever so sorry for any bending of protocol. I will probably post this in General Discuss but in the interests of balance as well here we go.
Along with the rest of you i've read Max Hastings, Anthony Beevor, Lawrence Rees etc. Many accounts of the average Russian soldier including one Vasily Borisov of a Siberian division reveal that "training consisted of only a couple of days in the shooting range... If a machine gunner was killed, I was unable to take over from him and load the machine gun because I wasn't taught how."
The re-crewing fix hasn't seemed to have made it to a patch yet so at the risk of over complicating things I'd suggest that a certain level of veterency be required (1 for Guards, 2 for Strelky?) before soldiers have the training or initiative to improvise with equipment. Thats if the NKVD don't cart you off for favouring enemy gear.

Don't worry, conscripts are unable to recrew weapons/emplacements but i think Shtrafnyie can do it.

If some veterancy will be required for soviet regular infantry to recrew heavy weapons (strelky 2!), then some should be considered for volksgrenadiers as well, for those are no soldiers at all.
You should also mind, that most infantry men in reality would find it difficult to make a proper use of a mortar (that is other than mortar teams), without a lot of 'em getting killed in the process.

oh come on, this is game. I guess captured schreck can't fire, because Alies don't have ammo to it.
I don't like the idea of vet-cap ( let's call it for now) ;D it'll be too hard to get this vet for SU units.

BTW, could it be possible to decrease the number of Strely and Guards by 1? I mean it's really hard to find good cover for 6-man squad, not saying about 7 guys. And 6 man squad can't capture more than I heavy weapon without annihilating the squad, while 7-man can. and they will be able to reineforce.

Now, that's the Big Question raised! Same goes for 4-men engineer squad.
If you make the squads less, than you would have to make them stronger (healthier, faster in capping\repairs, etc.), for their number was a part of this faction core design. I think, it will take a huge amount of time and a strong will to finally balance it, without turning SU into another US faction.
