Military Music
« on: January 09, 2011, 09:54:48 PM »
Hello everyone!!!  :)

The aim of this topic is to post links with music that have any military accent, military origins, or is about military deeds. Hopefully, people would post some translation/original lyrics, and would explain why it was created, why it was played, when... so we can understand!  :D

I expect people will post music from their country, as it would be a great way to improve (at least) my understanding of their land's tradition and way of living (though its about military music, its still the reflect of society).

One can also discuss what's interesting in one or another song (anecdote?), or why he just like it!

Though I don't really approve the idea of opening such a topic, 'cause really soon you might find it populated with so called "fascist fetishists".

I do not target german or russian music specifically (though I would wanna see some unknown but powerful Red army Choir music), but any song related to wars. British, americans, polish, italians... I myself can post a few french song with lyrics in french and english. So even if there is (and I doubt there is a lot of them in this forum) "fascist fetishists", they will not have the high hand  ;D

Anyway, I doubt there's a lot of music/song about Waffen-SS (or such) deeds  ::)

EDIT:
Thats a french song about partisans during WW2. This is a well-known song in France, just like the "Marseillaise", so expect every educated french to know it!  ;D

Le Chant des Partisans/ French WWII partisans's song.

Its a song composed by Anna Marly, and lyrics are from Joseph Kessel and Maurice Druon. Its the most popular song of french during occupation and after the liberation.
I had tears the very first time I heard it  :'(

I guess that nearly every national anthem is about fight, sacrifice and other patriotical stuff. At least Polish anthem is.

no, really, Sabaton - swedish power metal band sing really awesome songs about IIWW.
Check their songs on youtube.com
My favourite are:
40-1 - about Polish defenders in September '39
Aces in Exile - about forgin pilots in the battle of Britain
Panzerkampf - about Kursk battle
... and more. I could count 20 more... but what's the point? I mean that everybody can check it.

oh, and if you are interested this is something special:
it's animated history of Poland. Some events might be known by you, and some don't. In left lower corner you have years.

The song is great!  :)

I knew this battle, but this video and song are so good!!

The video with animations about Poland's history is, well... So beautiful, so magical!  :D

EDIT:

@IJoe, The unknown Hill (or anonymous heigh) is a very nice song . This interpretation is very touching!

Glad you like the partisan's song!  :)
Funnily, Anna Marly composed the song after hearing an old russian song  ;)
