Dealing with Werh Sniper as Soviets

Hi,

I've had a good read through the forums and couldn't find a topic on this - please point me in the right direction if I've missed it.

I'm after some advice on how best to deal with a Werhmacht Sniper in the early game. The best I've managed so far is with the Soviet's own Sharpshooter team, however often the Spotter will fire first and spook the Sniper into running before the Sharpshooter can fire.

The Brits have the Bren and the US have the Jeep which are ideal, but the Soviets have no vehicles available until you can get the T70/90 out, by which time a Sniper can do a lot of damage.

Any suggestions?

I generally use the mortar for taking out Wehr Snipers, usually using a conscript sqaud to distract it.

The command squad is an effective sniper hunter. Use charge to rush at him and reveal him then gun him down. If he's good he'll retreat fast so you'll need to do it quite a few times to chip his health away. A supported sniper is best dealt with by using a mortar, since his sniper is actually a counter to yours, or using katyushas :). Remeber that the sniper is more vulnerable than other troops on the retreat so don't be afraid of chasing him as far as you possibly can until he's out of range.

The soviets have soooo much troops, I find it hard for 1 sniper to do much damage. (Unless you use my tatic)
The Russians think there sooo tough, wait till the Ostheer comes...

The command squad rush and mortars are things I've tried, but perhaps I need to look at them again.

I often found against the AI that the Sniper would retreat right back to base as soon as I hit him, then pop up again somewhere else. If I continued to pursue, I'd run into the opponent's base defences.

The mortar never seemed accurate enough - before a shell could hit the Sniper, he'd already killed the covering infantry.

Its the same with every other sniper...they can be a pain in the butt.

Command squad detects quite nicely and at later stages the T70 can be a decent counter since it has a small detection radius

OK, had another go - I think I hadn't been agressive enough with my Command squad, needed to Charge then keep pressing.

This is a great Mod by the way, very well made.

Zerstorer (sorry for the lack of umlauts), yeah I know it's the same for every sniper, but the PE don't have one and I have counter-tactics for the Brits, Wehr and US. I never really play as PE so have to see how they work. Maybe in the future... I just couldn't work out how best to deal with them as Soviets.

Armoured cars and scout cars are death to snipers.

Yeah you have to keep pushing even after he retreats because snipers take more damage than other troops on the retreat. This is when they're most vulnerable.

I find that snipers don't take tank rounds very well either...

Command squad ain't so good when up against an observant human player who will keep his sniper on hold fire and then target the major in the squad first, removing the command squad abilties.

I suppose you can try sending in the meatshield to draw its fire and "persuade" the sniper to retreat and then setup your own sharpshooters in the area and wait for the sniper to return. Hide your snipers in green cover since the recloaking speed depends on where you fire from.

Killing the Major doesn't remove the detection capabilities of the squad.

Have to say that early in the game the best way to deal with sniper is the command squad, haven't yet gotten anything that works as well as the command squad.

Though whats annoying is when the sniper takes a Pop at your Commander, you have to go all back to reinforce.

I've targeted the major many times before with Hans.  He takes 2-3 sniper shots to kill.

That is exactly what I thought but people seem convinced it's one. The major has heroic armour and should be resistant to snipers. We need to bust this myth once and for all.
