Stamps
« on: August 29, 2010, 01:45:09 AM »
Hey guys, most of you have no idea about me but one of my hobbies is stamp collecting. I am fairly new to the stamp war, but being at work on my collection for only 5 months i have amassed quite a few interesting stamps and i try to identify as many of them as possible (to make sure i have a whole set). I have recently come across a set of Austrian stamps that i am having a problem identifying.

Can anyone help me out? I don't really have much German at my disposal and i have checked multiple databases (including the Austrian Postal Database, which seemed to be down for some unknown reason) but haven't found a single trace of the stamps. if anyone can help here is the stamps that i have from this series

Perhaps if i ask my Siberian Husky to howl towards the moon Werwolf will show himself........

Seeme what kind of coins do you collect? I have an international currencies collection, some from countries that don't exist anymore ( Soviet Union (of course), Republican Spain, Nazi Germany, South 'Nam and North 'Nam just to name a few).  My grandpa started it back in the Soviet Union and i have kept it and expanded it.

"Republik Österreich" = Republic of Austria. Hmm, I'm no stamp expert, but judging from the designs, I think they're pre-WW2, possibly even Weimar-era (the First Austrian Republic was established in 1919 and lasted until the 1933 Anschluss). In any case, these are pretty awesome, not to mention uncommon.  ;)

Hmm thanks Werwolf, I thought they were made after the war. They looked like they were pretty modern, not pre-war. I'm just a little suspicious because they depict POWs, but the only Austrian POW stamps i've seen are Post-war

K guys I have a new set of post cards from what I believe is a Wehrmacht postal service, I've recently returned from the New York Stamp Society's Bi-Annual and was looking through old acquisitions and found these things. If anyone have any information please do tell.

hey neosdark, i think its cool that you collect stamps, so do i. however, i am obviously more of a noob at it than you, having no pre-ww2 stamps. my oldest is probably an Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr stamp from 1968.
