The God of War ability...
« on: August 24, 2010, 10:33:15 AM »
I've been working with this ability quite a bit and I have yet to find its awesomeness... Maybe Some of you could give tips how to use or what would you change on the ability. Btw... I think when you choose the Propaganda doctrine you should build as much artillery as your pop cap allows you when a certain thing on the doctrine tree is researched. I would love to hear some of your opinions =)

GoW is a terrible ability and there is no skill in using it. Just get LoS deep into enemy territory and bam, random arty strikes for a long time. I've never seen it used to good effect ever.

There are already threads about this god awful ability elsewhere, use search in future.

Well i think that GoW is pretty much useless ATM. It does more damage to your own troops and/or allies rather than to enemies´. For some odd case it likes to target your units even when they are one screen away from target area...not even to mention that it hates Katyushas for some reason. ;D Anyway i think it needs some serious tweaks and i like your idea of artillery superiority when you chose Propaganda strategy...maybe it could be done with unlocking GoW ability, but rather than to unlock this single ability it could unlock both GoW and grant more artillery firebases.

I was genuinely surprised that GOW wasn't changed in some way in the new patch as at the moment its hideously overpriced for what it does.   :(

I tend to use it as harassing fire to either limit enemy movement or stop the enemy forming up properly to launch an attack.  As others have said, don't use it anywhere near your own troops as it'll almost certainly hit them (it also has a habit of hitting the unit that you used to get LOS for it).

Hey, like the soup Nazi said “use search before you make a post like this” lol. Just kidding dude. Its kind of goofy the way it works. I used it once when I first started playing EF. It seemed like it was hitting everywhere. My team mates, myself, the enemy. It was a 3v3 and finely one of my team mates says “where the hell is all this arty coming from” lol. I say “I don’t know”

best not to use it unless it’s a 1v1 and use it deep in his territory and get out of there.

Dose GOW target actively?  I fires close to where units are moving, both mine and the enemy. Anyone have a clue?

GOW fires downward artillery at total random. I've seen it do some awesome things, just never place the aim circle NEAR a defensive outpost, you'll be killed way to easily.

Honestly God of War is very hard to use effectively, easiest way to use it is to send a spare useless unit near the enemy bases or defenses and deploy it as close as you can. Annihilation for a large range follows.

Mm hmm, definately needs abit of tweaking/rethinking in my opinion.

Maybe something that increases the accuracy of all your other arty or gives them a useful ability, like the brits get with creeping barrage or overwatch.

Atleast make it abit less random.

Cheers

Is it completely random? I have seen it pummel the area where the beacon was almost exclusively.

Now give this man some credit. He made an effort posting this content. However, GoW is a crap ability :P

GoW saved my Tiger by killing Sandland's IS-2 ploughing towards it... The most useful thing it's ever done.

As far I haven't seen any Dev talking about GoW with us, so I think that they think that GoW is working well.

I would be worried if that were the case. Although nothing they've done so far has shown them to be stupid in any way so we'll just have to have faith they're already changing it.

While we're on the subject of propaganda...

I personally think the ability to build mgs and trenches should be combined into the one power on the right side. Then have some sort of passive infantry bonus or a heavy AI/AT infantry on the left (since left side focuses on infantry tactics). I think that side needs to be a little more appealing early on as pretty much everyone goes for katyushas on the right.

Soviets also currently lack a heavy infantry callin, similar to rangers or stormtroopers, that are able to perform both an AI and AT role. This role is very important in opening up new strategies as it provides an opportunity for stop-gap AT in strats such as T3 blitz. The strat is simply too risky without it. It would also spice up the infantry options seeing as the only AT infantry for Soviets are cheap spammable tank hunters or a secondary option with guards. Having a reliable heavy AT squad would increase the variety of Soviet ground forces.

The final reason is that is makes sense to combine the trenches and MGs into a single power as they are both defensive in nature, work well on the arty side (RHS) and neither is really worth 1 point each.

Of course, the infantry would have to be worth more cps than 1 so a little rearranging of the ability cp costs on the LHS would be in order.

Don't worry... perhaps looks like that, but they read the threads on the site, you can be sure about it ;).
