Passengers on the T-34
« on: August 24, 2010, 03:39:36 AM »
I know you can already do this with one of the command trees, but is their any way this could be added to general research and have something take it's place in the command tree?

I would love to be able to transport some of my troops around <3

That's a good idea, but I think it would be better suited for the Ostheer. They are highly mobile. I don't know if they used that tactic however. I personally think it would be cool.

Well it would make alot of sense too. If you look at the old war footage, their were squads of troops riding around on T-34's all the time. But another vehicle would be nice.

I know they were going for "Russians are poor" as the theme for the team. But even the "Poor Russians" had some form of transport for their troops XD

I've always liked this idea, make all T-34s rideable (1 squad per tank only) but with a serious damage penalty to the troops if they get attacked.

That's the whole point...Soviets lacked the halftracks to make large scale mechanised warfare unlike the US/Brits/WH. If you want mechanised warfare you use the breakthrough doc and spam T34s with tank riders. Tank riders dismounted way before reaching the target and were very vulnerable as they tried to keep up with the tanks, not like the haftrack mounted troops.
The only time tank riders proved successful was in city fights where Tanks are a bad idea anyways.

Its one of the weaknesses designed for the faction

Perhaps instead of a specific tank rider squad, The special, rideable, t34 could carry one squad of anything you choose.

Ya, that would be awesome. I would love to be able to transport my Ingenery (spell check?) squads up to the front lines with me for field repairs XD

So could you make the T-34 Call-in power let ANY unit ride on the tank? (Let it come in with the Tank Guard, but you can dis-mount them and put something else on.)

Passengers on the T-34 vs. Retreat to Command Squad
« Reply #10 on: August 25, 2010, 06:17:59 PM »

What about a retreat to Command Squad like the Brits have (Retreat to Captain) instead? That way even the medic truck would make sense.
All other factions do have mobile reinforcement. Russians can build static outposts. But when I'm going to lose a squad I normally retreat. Especially if it's pinned.
I will open a new thread for discussion.

Tank support is allways a good idea if you have as many of them as Allies had. :D Even Stalingrad was cut in half by a german armored spearhead in the early stages of the battle.

It would be great if Guards could also ride T-34 but only after choosing Breakthru doctrine. T-34 with inginery or PTRD teams would be OP.

Another idea is to make Tankrider infanry buildable (250-300MP) after you get that tree ability. The problem is that then T-34 would be more annoing than Roos.

How about this: The medic truck could be used to transport troops. Hey, the ideas just keep coming, put a mg on top of the medic truck, lol. When its locked down it cant be garrisoned

I personally would like to put strekelys or ingernery on mine...  Perhaps a sharpshotter team...

Throw away the wounded, throw away the medic supplies, we need room to get these men to the battle, not away from it.
Sounds Soviet enough to me.  ;D

Everyone would personally like their T-34 being OP. Sharpshooters sniping from "inside" of this transport, ingernery repairing and placing mines behind enemy lines and PPSH Strelky cutting off the retreating germans are the reasons why all of these units cant ride on tanks.
