A newb to networking needs help!
« on: August 21, 2010, 02:31:00 AM »
Hey, I'm trying to forward my ports for COH standards so I can connect to players more easily, and I'm stuck halfway through. I went through a guide but once I set up a static IP it didn't really help and I couldn't connect to it by the web browser. Can anyone give me a step by step?  :( PLEASE?  :o

Networking isn't my strong subject... do you set up a new IP for your PC?

Remember that once you disable DHCP no one but you will provide a new IP to your PC. If you already know that, just pretend that didn't read this :P...

Cheers.

Well I used Portfoward.com but setting up a static IP didn't work, it just didn't work when I plugged it into my browser, so I need better help.

Correct me if I'm wrong, you already did:

a)Use @Jimbosmith' guide reference

b)Setting up the router to static address.

Do you set up/configure something on your own pc after that?

BTW what ports do Company of heroes have?

The normal port that causes issues is '6112'.

a)Use @Jimbosmith' guide reference

b)Setting up the router to static address.

Do you set up/configure something on your own pc after that?

Jimbosmith's reference is where I was to get the instructions to change it.

b. Once setting up the Static address, that's it. I can't ACCESS what I need to change in my browser.

Which OS your pc has?

Are you sure you put an IP and DNS with the correct range?

Remember that now DHCP is off.

You have to input your ROUTER's IP address into the browser, not the static IP you have set for your machine.

For instance, I've got my static IP for my computer set at 10.0.0.5 and all my ports are forwarded to this address but my router's IP address is 10.0.0.138.

The bolded number is the one I put in the browser to access the router page. You can find your router address by googling your model.

Also, please explain the exact steps you have performed thus far. To me it sounds like you have set up a static IP, but nothing else. Is that right? I could be completely wrong interpreting your problem. Are you able to access your router control panel before setting up the static IP?

A port forwarding topic should be stickied in this section.

Plugged in that information from Run/Cmd/ipconfig/all

Windows Vista Home Premium is what I have,

But the step proceeding that is where I was stuck.

But it was to MY knowledge that you put your static IP into the address bar. I'll plug in the router address and see what happens.

Probably, I'll give that a go too.
