General feedback-late mod player

first off... thank you for an awesome mod!! really brilliant....

My general feedback and feel for the Russian Army:

cool layout and progression ladder.
awesome tactics and spec. branches.
different tiered infantry is really fun to play with.
Loads more.. but just a few questions..?

I understand for balancing reasons etc ,the Russian infantry behave in a certain way what with having outposts for reinforcements.
but no retreat option? and a biggy for me
they cant pick up weapons?(ok only certain units can but it seriously hamstrings the Russians since they seem to suck up a lot of ammo. An gas resource for anything it would seem viable for them to collect weapons no?...or its a bug?
i can fathom the no retreat option as you probably wanted to accentuate the fanaticism displayed by the red army during the period...awesome!
but to have squads totally hamstrung in enemy territory and not even able pick up an smg seems to be a balance issue. IMHO. especially seeing that the Wehrmacht units seem to annihilate the average Russian squad... again no problem i get the immersion detail of German superiority in arms and tactics. but both the British and Americans have counterweights for this.
the Russians have got zip...IMO

most of my time playing skirmish revolves around keeping the troops alive with little or no momentum achieved.
i have also watched the computer play as the red faction, and even on expert it struggles in the short to mid term game to establish even the most rudimentary of footholds and only when playing with bot factions do i seem to get anywhere.

i don't for a second believe you guys missed anything as the Russian Armour seems adequate and quite powerful when rolling but i think the infantry are hamstrung without either the retreat option or the ability to pick up weapons (besides conscripts).

for balance i don't think you soul add both features but certainly one, as my excitement grows when i have to upgrade weapons and ammo at the dope but there is no real change especially in the weapon upgrades and so comes off as a bit disappointing, i don't expect the squads to become super soldiers but without veteran capabilities or weapon pickup its extremely frustrating to have squad after squad annihilated even by German light Armour with a piat/RL/panzerfaust lying right at their feet.

my 2 pennies... other wise awesome mod guys cant wait for the campaign/updates!!

Update regarding patches:


Patches made the launcher all pretty and the added options are really funky, but after finding some game breaking bugs I had to revert to a fresh install. Sorry if I a slow on the uptake but have only recently acquired Ef:

Bugs Found:

Kursk Map:
infantry units get stuck randomly when given move orders first time round and have to have orders repeated.
Russian conscripts keep producing in the barracks but never materialize...
General:
after the update 1.11 and the incremental, you cannot produce anything on the Russian side  that requires an upgrade.
IE no other units besides the command unit, conscripts, engineers......vehicles again weirdly don't seem to be affected.
Certain upgrades don't affect at all due to this in the armory
Russian command unit orders mortar strike but only smoke pops up and then nothing...you can imagine how many times I banged my keyboard on that one.....

but yeah basically after that I uninstalled and reinstalled a fresh copy of EF and everything is A-ok.... besides the super strong German units but I have just decided to play harder!

Again hope the feedback was constructive and not overly critical.

Thanks for the feedback (though there should still be a stickied thread for this kind of thing).

Retreat will be added in the next patch, due whenever the translators are done with Czech, Japanese and Korean.

Russians can't pick up heavy weapons like MG42s because of a hard coded (can only be changed by relic) bug that causes crashes. They can pick up heavy squad weapons such LMGs and bazookas but they must have free weapon slots to do so. For example, German Grenadiers have 4 weapon slots and shreks take up 2. Therefore the squad can only have 2 shreks at max, while still keeping 2 rifles. Bazookas take up 1 slot, so you can have a shrek, 2 bazookas and a rifle in a squad at max. Volks can have 5 bazookas! Russian units are the same. But if you're trying to pick up weapons with red banner strelky, their heavy weapon slots are already taken up.

Your bugs were probably just a corrupt install. The game is more stable than ever at the moment.

If you upgrade a unit at the armoury at the same time as you build it, it will get stuck at 100% complete. You have to cancel production and start again. Just don't build the same unit type that you are currently upgrading.

Now you mention bugs, when I load a saved skirmish, if I have a sharpshooter with arty upgrade, the arty becomes unusable(gray) and says that requires a Captain/Lieutenant to work or something like that. And I think the firebase get screwed too.

Might controls everything, and without strength you cannot protect anything. Let alone yourself...
