It's capitalism baby  8)
Yeah, it looks like we have been living in a dreamworld, thinking that eventually would be, let's say... balance patch, perhaps CoH2?? But we just get that promise.

Have you all forgotten L4D after L4D2? I remember hearing similar promises of "don't worry, we won't be abandoning the game", and yet sure enough after L4D2 came out, L4D1 fell over dead. There is simply no one left playing it anymore.

AND COH ONLINE WONT SUPPORT MODS.

WHICH MEANS NO EASTERN FRONT.

We're talking about a company that has left this game unpatched for a YEAR, has let cheaters and drophackers run around without punishment, and this is for games that we PAID for? And you guys expect BETTER treatment for a game that's free?

WAKE UP.
Definetly, that crossed my mind too; they just want more money with lesser quality. It's a shame, no matter how you see it. L4D got a few gifts recently, we'll get a few balance patches, hopefully they would "fix" the balance and help the EF team; and that's all, in the "best-case" scenario... I wonder what will happen next...

I'm apologize if my lower expectations insult another users; I already used this pic... but this deserves it more than the past time.

The problem is that we are a minority, most people will play the free, new and at the same time "recycled" CoH. It's looks like CoH is walking the path that L4D walked time ago, at least L4D was balanced and I don't remember about suffering about a "persistent bug".

So this leaves a lot to discuss.

What does this mean for the mod?

As far as Relic seems to be making it apparent, which isn't much, they're hiding a lot of details that I imagine they dont want people to know because it would make them look bad, COH Online is not simply a rerelease of COH and its expansions and will thus not be compatible with EF.

If it does indeed include all the elements of the original COH and expansions though and has players move over then COH will be abandoned. The community of players is barely holding on as is with the number of players present never exceeding three digits. No one will bother playing a mod for a game no one plays anyway. I have been playing mods for 8 years now and I have seen this to be a cold, undisputable fact.

Not allowing mods would be stupid I'm sure relic wouldn't do that because modding games is part of the community.

I'm sure Relic also wouldn't leave the game unbalanced for a year without patches, since balanced gaming is a part of the community, as well as keeping cheaters out.

OH WAIT.

Dude, seriously. Are talking about the same Relic? Because I think you're thinking of a different Relic.

I am so pissed right now. Where are all the game developers screwing us over lately?

Because game developers like money.

Lets not kid ourselves, retail game developers like to earn money just as much as any other professional. Getting more money from people who have already paid, and doing minimal work in the process, is the lifeblood of any creative business.

You talk about it as if you approve of it.

I certainly dont. The relation between consumer and publisher is becoming unpleasently skewed in favor of the publisher over these last few years in gaming.

Microtransactions, DRM, early sequels, quick abandonment of existing titles, etc etc.

I don't like where gaming is going. I've been playing video games since I got my Playstation 1 way back in 1995, but these last few years since 2006 have been rapidly going downhill as far as how the developers and publishers relate with their consumers.

That's the trend at the moment but it doesn't mean it has to be that way.

@ Blackbishop, that star trek pic gets me every time , its very useful and fitting.
One thing I don't get is , whats stopping us from just not getting Coh online and sticking with EF ?

Perhaps if they release mod tools... but I almost sure, and I expect to be mistaken, they aren't planning to do it.

Well even if they do it, I think everyone is upset because CoH is entering on the twilight zone, and they didn't balance vCoH, just got worse. Besides the imbalance, the maphackers, drophackers and any other cheaters just went rampant... and still do.

And then when all the players were hoping that after CoHO something positive will happen, vCoH will be the next priority or perhaps a CoH2, that weakened hopes, that lasted at least one year just vanished with that crap.

I doubt that will be a CoH 2 now, I hardly doubt that CoHO will be a failure, it's free after all, a lot of people will gather around it from all directions of the wind. And if that happens I think it won't be necessary to develop a CoH 2, the sequel to vCoH. I think I'm a little pessimistic. Sorry :-X.

I firmly believe that without a doubt we will see a CoH2. It is Relic's flagship franchise - ridiculously well reviewed, awarded and sold. I think that CoH Online is a marketing stunt to get new people hooked on CoH before they announce CoH2.
