How to make everybody happy
« on: May 16, 2010, 11:40:54 AM »
My suggestion is simple.
Make weapon upgrades something you buy to each unit instead of a global upgrade.

How would that make everybody happy?
We would have more focus on unit preservation which would promote unit preservation and good play which would make competitive players happy.

But some people think that the Russians should through their poor men away without a second thought and would be sad, but soon they would see that they don't have to care about their men, they just have to care about their weapons and they would be happy again.

The people who want the game to be realistic would like that twice as many weapon cost twice as much as a result they would be full of joy when the change was made.

Many people would be happy because they it seems more traditional to buy upgrades to every unit.

And finally the developers would be happy because munition is still used to upgrade and because everybody else is happy.

Note: You will still buy upgrades for the tanks the same way.

Becouse with no retreat you need to use different tactics.
Becouse all upgrades in a communist army should be global.

Becouse every army should be played differently. No retreat, only global resources and long cooldowns makes the fraction unique and more Red Tideish.

If youre unit preservation is good than youre micro is good.
If you win using a no retreat army than youve won thanks to planning and tactics or by teching up quickly. Soviets just need some unlocks (IS-2).

Strelky - Comrade Commissar, we have received enough PPSH's for the entire army, why can we not have them?
Commissar - Vasily is without a PPSH, what about him? We cannot deploy men that are unequal, it is very counter revolutionary.
Strelky - I understand Comrade, but what about the Conscripts? Some are without Rifles yet we still send them to the enemy.
Commissar - 4 with Rifles, 4 without Rifles. Is that not equal to you?!
Strelky - Uh, of course, Comrade Commissar
Commissar - Good, hand in your units Rifles and I shall give you one PPSH for every 2nd Rifle
Strelky - But that would only give us 3 PPSH's!
Commissar - 6 men in your Unit, 3 with PPSH's, 3 without. That is equal. Now, to the enemy with you!

Amazing Burro XD

So I guess that 1 DP-28 is equal to 3 Rifles? Hehehe.

@SavageWorld, giving each troop a local upgrade would ruin tactics within the Red Army. Furthermore, the unique "No Retreat/Global Upgrades/No Veterancy", like Paciat Said,
makes the faction different.

Okay, being honest here, I don't attempt to even remotely preserve my conscripts. The only unit I see to it that they STAY reinforced is Red Banner Strelky and Shock Guards. I will not preserve Strelky or Guards if they are not fully upgraded because by the time they are on the field, I should have my upgrade, so I need to make some pop cap room.

Even NKVD Conscripts? Nope. I just use Conscripts, NKVD or Not, as Building/Trench/Outpost fillers and MG Targets. (Move the Conscripts front foward and have Strelky (Red Banner) go down the flank, the MG's most likely will target the conscripts.

I like the current system better.

Totally agree with that statement. I would NOT be happy if local upgrades were brought in, I was almost disgruntled when the Sharpshooter's artillery was made local.

Heavy weapon teams die to easy and you can't recrew them. having unit upgrades would be stupid as you would be wasting resources when they die. Besides no other heavy weapon team in the game has their own upgrades. So no.

HAHA good one Burro.

Besides no other heavy weapon team in the game has their own upgrades. So no.
Making the units diffrent is not a bad thing. But I am not so concerned about HW. The units were this change could benefit the most are Ingenery and Conscripts.
Ingenerys because you should be able to get a mine counter without paying 200 munition. If you choose to make buy the upgrade as the first upgrade you are putting yourself in a huge disadvantage.
The Conscripts because their need to be more options in the early game. As it is now USSR has the most boring early game of all the factions, all though you could make an argument for Brit.
