[1.04] Limit on US Airborne Units Version
« on: February 04, 2010, 03:33:34 PM »
As a courtesy, I will try this one more time, especially after retesting it myself last night-

Version 1.04
8 player Orel map, Skirmish, all slots filled with factions.

Limit on US Airborne troops to a maximum of three.
Limit on US Airborne anti tank guns of three.

I was not even close to a population cap and had plenty of manpower. I have played well over 2500 games of COH. I am not the sharpest knife in the draw gaming-wise, but I know what I see and what it means.

Try out the map as described above if you wish to do so. If not, that is ok with me. I was merely trying to give you a heads up about a problem. I started this thread again since it was stated in the locked thread that EF does not change any faction other than Russian.

Maybe your thread wouldn't have been locked if you had been clear? Do you mean you want the AI in skirmish to be limited to a maximum of three of those units at any given time?

Modifying the other factions which is something we are trying to avoid unless it is absolutely neccesary, like the Terror/Officer Propanganda Drop, which we are trying to modify to do something as well as making allied Soldiers retreat.
I won't lock this one since you've provided a Version Tag.

[edit]

I acctually only just got the point of this post, I had no idea the Airbourne and AT guns had been limited... I thought you were asking us to do this :-X

I can confirm this, I have a thread I posted in bugs about it.  US Paras and Rangers have a limit of 3.  After three squads are called in, attempting to call more in gives a message like "Unit unavailable".

It is in 1.04 and was in all previous versions.  Another user(not a dev) said it was an issue with the AI coding to prevent the AI from spamming the unit.  However this limit also applies to the player, and thus severely affecting the original gameplay in the game if you go airborne or infantry doctrine with amer.

IMO this needs to be fixed asap.  I play with a friend that prefers US and he hits the unit limit every single game.

Again, it is an unwanted side-effect of the new AI. We will try to fix this but no promises.

1. Chocobo- Since English appears to not be your native language, I will explain. There appeared to be a coded limit on the number of Airborne squads you can have at any given time. It was not a suggestion by me that EF impose this limit.

2. BurroDiablo- Please, thank you for the straight answer today. I will pass this along to the 50 clan members of Easy Company who have installed the mod. There is a contradiction between what you stated when you locked the previous thread, i.e. "...We're not modifying the original factions, this is basically the  defining factor behind the Eastern Front mod...."
and what you stated in this thread-

"Modifying the other factions which is something we are trying to avoid unless it is absolutely neccesary, like the Terror/Officer Propanganda Drop, which we are trying to modify to do something as well as making allied Soldiers retreat.
I won't lock this one since you've provided a Version Tag."

Since the former statement says no changes to other factions and the latter implies that there are/will be, I will assume the latter statement to be correct. I will report back to my clan accordingly.

actually I personally rather like the whole idea of only 3 squads of Airborne, Rangers or Fallshirm squads... it means that you need to use strategy to win more then blobs of airborne... Now you can't just throw your squads away because you have 5 others to take its place if you want vetted units... I say don't change it... it adds strategy to the game more then anything else...  and to all those complaining people... learn some strat and stop complaining because your blob technique doesn't work...

Also for a to me unknown reasons,  i couldn't call in more tahn 2 hummels. i dont know if the mod did that or 2.601, but in earlier days i could always call 3 of them.

One of the BEST things about this MOD, as opposed to others, is the fact that it tries to fit its new faction into the existing game without changing anything so that VCoH players will be able to play their chosen factions without having to relearn how to play them. Having a limit (and I understand this was not intentional and is being looked into) on certain troops like drop in AT's, paratroopers, Rangers etc etc changes how those doctrines are played. Thus, those folks who have their 4 dropped AT strats and their 6 Fallshrim's strats will NOT play EF since it changes their playestyle...a playstyle they CAN play when playing VCoH.

Simply put: your statement is totally against the intentions of the MOD and it's developers. Does it make players use more mixed arms? Yep. Should players be forced to play KNOWN factions differently from VCoH..certainly not.

this is dumb, hey comp stompers, try playing against people instead of retarted comps...not only will you get better at the game but this idiotic complaining about the comps doing this or that will stop.  any suggestions that appear that people have based off playing comps is a waste of time.

I think PE have the same problem. I can call only 2 hummels
Propably the next game of relic will be pong, but i'm not sure if they would be able to balance the sides.

In my opinion it is a serious issue.  I care much less about the AI than I do about the original gameplay being untouched.

Did you by any chance read this topic? If not, i would suggest you do. Especially because there is no one complaining about the comp AI or anything otherwise. They are merely pointing out a bug, in which players get treated like a "AI player" by the game and by doing so they get limits on certain units they may use.
