OstHeer Vehicle suggestions
« on: February 04, 2010, 04:10:05 AM »
Vehicles for Ostheer:

The Wespe or Grille self propelled artillery piece as a standard non-doctrine tank, in counter to the russian 122mm firebase (also a standard unit) with lockdown ability, similar to that of the hummel.

The elefant/ferdinand tank hunter vehicle, with the 88cm pak 43 on the original porsche tiger chassis, a kickass tank hunter but useless against infantry for the lack of any defensive machine-gun armament, keeping it historically accurate. Lock down ability would be nice also, similar to the marder III.

The Jagdtiger tank i suggest as a doctrine only vehicle, as a possible counter to the ISU-152. both similar design concepts, plus would be cool to see them face off and to see the 128 mm pak 44 in action would be an added bonus.

I would want to see the Jagdtiger, Nashorn, Elefant, Panzer III, Panzer IV, Sturmtiger, maybe Landkreuzer 1000 Ratte or Lrandkreuzer 1500 Monster
Guards of the Red Army. Today, the German Reich is done away with!

Elefant had a hull MG, Ferdinand didn't, so an Elefant wouldn't be totally useless.

Wespe sounds good.

Any kind of artillery would be good really, stationary or self propelled.

Why not both? But the howitzer is a non-doctrinal unit. And there already is a Wehrmacht howitzer in game, just it can't be built.

German tanks for Ostheer

1943 - German Panzerkampfwagon II AusfL Luchs (Lynx) (SdKfz 123)
Light Reconnaissance Tank
Armament;          1 - 2cm KwK 38 L/55 '
                             1 - 7.92mm MG 34
Engine;                Maybach, HL66P, 6cyl. gas, 180 hp
Speed:                37 mph
Range:                 93 miles
Crew:                   4
Weight:               11.6 tons

Originally designated as a tank, it was redesignated as a fully tracked reconnaissance vehicle. It mounted the standard Panzer II turret but without a cupola or vision ports. The suspension had 5 sets of interleaved large bogie wheels. Served on both the Eastern and Western fronts through 1945.' Only 131 were built. Only a few rare examples remained at the end of the war. This rare photograph is a Luchs at APG just after WWII.

1943 - German SP Heavy Infantry Gun on Czech 38(t) chassis Grille Ausf K (SdKfz138/1) .
Armament:               1 - 15cm siG 33/2
                                  1 - 7.92mm MG 34
Engine;                     Praga, EPA/2, 6 cyl. gas, 125 hp
Speed:                     22 mph
Range:                     115 miles
Crew:                       4
Weight:                    12 tons

The Grille (Cricket) was developed by adding a heavy infantry gun to the 38(t) Czech chassis. The gun was protected by a heavy spring flap, a feature of the siG 33/2. Served in Russia, Tunisia, Italy and France. In 1945 still in service. About 282 were produced.

1943 - German Sturmmorser Tiger (Sturmtiger) 38cm RW6-1 L/5.4
(no SdKfz No.) Assault rocket mortar on heavy
tank chassis
Armament:        1 - 38cm (15") Mirser StuM RW6 1 L/5.4 mortar
                                projector
                           1 - 7.92mm MG 34
Engine:              Maybach, HL 230 P45, V-12, gas, 700 hp
Speed:             25 mph
Range;             75 miles
Crew:               5
Weight:            68 tons

This extremely rare vehicle was a SP 38cm mortar on a Tiger I chassis. Hull was unchanged and a large box superstructure was added. The short barreled mortar projector fired a massive 761 Ib. shell up to 18,000 feet. The design was unusual in that the projectile was rocket assisted and the gun tube had vents in the wall to expel propellant gases forward. An attached crane was used to breech load the projectile. It was intended for street warfare or operations against heavily fortified defenses. Interestingly, this weapon was developed in 1943 by the Navy
as an anti-submarine weapon. The Navy dropped the project and the  Army mounted the weapon on the Tiger I Ausf B chassis as an assault gun. In December of 1944, 7 Sturmtigers participated in the Ardennes offensive but were thoroughly unsuited and unable to keep up with the Panzer IV and Panther tanks and, as such, made only a modest contribution. Some 18 Sturmmorser Tigers were produced in 1944 from damaged Tiger I tanks.

1944 - German Panzerjaeger lV/70 SP 7.5cm Assault Gun  (Sd Kfz 162/1)  mounted on PzKw IV chassis.

Heavily armored turretless AT gun. Over 1500 built. Improved version of the Jadpanzer IV with longer L/70 gun replacing the L/48. First used in numbers during the Ardennes offensive (12/44) when approximately 137 were available. Used as both an assault gun in support of infantry and as an anti tank gun. The long gun made the vehicle nose heavy with heavy wear on the rubber tired wheels which were replaced with steel rimmed wheels.

1944 - German Jagdpanzer VI SP AT Gun (Jagdtiger) (Sd Kfz 186)
Tank Hunter version of Tiger II
Armament:             1 - 128mm (5") Pak44 L/55 gun
                                  2 - 7.92mm MG
Engine:                   Maybach HL230P30, V-12 gas, 700 hp
Speed:                   25 mph
Range:                   105 miles
Crew:                     6
Weight:                  70 .6 tons

A heavy self-propelled anti tank gun mounting a 128mm gun on a Tiger II chassis. Only 77 were built. Issued to only two combat units. Employed in the Ardennes front and later in defense of Germany, such as the Remagen bridgehead in 1945. Most powerful armored vehicle of WII. Ponderous and underpowered.

Why do you want all the time the Jagdtiger and the Sturmtiger? Weapons which had never fought ( or just 2-3 days ) against red army?
In my opinion this weapons are interesting but not a possibility for an army which should represent the hole eastern front.
May the force be with you.

I am sincere now =>i don't really care if this two tanks will be or not for Ostheer, because i prefer to play on the allied side. With Ostheer will be just few games for finding their weakness.

I exposed just few ideas, and if are considered bad it don't matter...

But how about small tanks like Luchus and Grille ?

But how about small tanks like Luchus and Grille?
Luchus is great but id rather see a 20mm quad halftrack becouse OstHeer needs an AA gun. Light Italian/Romanian/Hungarian tanks and PzIII would be nice too so theres no need for another german light tank.
Grille/Wespe is a doctrinal must have to Ostheer.
Jagdpanzer is a great non doctrinal unit (with a Panters gun upgrade).
Jagdtiger is too heavy. Elephant should take his place.

no reaosn why we cant have pz2 as an early game tnk and pz3 as a mid game tank with 5cm long barrel OR 75mm stubby, individually upgraded on each tank for fuel cost.
