some small things I guess.....
« on: January 25, 2010, 02:33:06 AM »
Oke, first of all the mod is verry nicely done.
Secondly, the things that I will say will be strictly my own opinion so nothing personal or anything.

Now one thing that kind of bothered me about the mod it may be a small thing but, for me it is quite annoying.
The thing is the voices of the units are the american voices from the russian version of COH. when I heard the conscripts saying "rangers on my command" I was like wait a sec.
Or the t34 calling itself a sherman.

Now I dont know if the EF team has any plans for changing this. I mean soviet ww2 audio is not hard to get. there are enough games like : blitkrieg 1,2 suddenstrike 1,2 or even codename panzers coldwar.
perhaps it will be a problem converting the audio files or something into the mod I dont know. (you can always ask some russian fellows to do it :P) this might look like a small detail but I find it important.

The second thing I notices that playing with the soviets was that. you could get al the units verry easily and just mass blob. now the soviets where quite good in massing true. but later on in the war they also got better technology etc etc.

But thats not the point. the point is about upgrading your units. I mean getting the ammo as soviets is a pain in the ass. and those upgrades are not that cheap.
especialy in the small maps its hard getting that ammo. And as the soviet you cannot secure those points, so there is no way getting that ammo faster. So in my opinion it should be better to have like sort of an teching system so that the upgrades can be cheaper or something. and I guess tech system would maybe prevent spamming perhaps???

Now the second thing about the upgrades (correct me if I am wrong) I find annoying, when you buy like a mortar team you upgrade it. And the present unit you have on the field does not upgrade at the time when you buy the upgrade.
that is also verry annoying.
I dont know Maybe you have to go back to your base or something to retrain it?? ???. because its quite annoying that you have to buy a whole new unit just to have it upgraded.

And the infantry of the soviets. I know they had not have the best inf. At least in the beggining of the war but later they had better and better inf. Conscripts should be crap but I mean they getting their asses kicked by volks. I know they are cheaper then volks. but still its kind of silly.

So in short, in my opinion I think there should be some changes for the soviets in the:
inf sector,
in the upgrade system,
and there should be some level of teching for the soviets,

I was really looking forward to this mod. And it looks fantastic, but the soviet gameplay mechanics kind of disappointed me.

Now all this is strictly my OWN OPINION!

Regards,
Bjassie

I respect your opinion, but here is mine

Voice acting was the result of both getting the mod out and not having voice actors to do so. Its not as easy as you think.

The point of expensive upgrades is to decide which one will benefit you most. If they were all or mostly affordable, it wouldnt be as strategic of a decision. If you need munitions, then go out and get it

The upgrade system of only new units being upgraded goes along with my answer above. Its a strategic decision. Get something cheap early or wait for something more expensive. I do like the idea of retraining certain units though, for a small fee of course

Getting their ass kicked by volks is the plan. You want better infantry, its there for you to puchase (strelky, guards)

Hmmmm you do have some good points over there, if you look at that way at the upgrade system. Then it is fine as it is now.

and I agree that retreating would be handy.
And yes you are right when I want to kill volks faster that I need to get better inf.

And as for voice acting I now that the team from the Cold war crisis team has experience with it. and perhaps they would be willing to help.

maybe I just still need to get used to the mod I only played one match :P. oh well will play some more today. And I will see

I can sum this up in one word: Plagiarism.

We have permission to use vCoH's Russian voices, so we stick with that. We'd make our own custom voices, but that's over 26,000 individual sound files. We are hoping we can simply cut the 'Sherman' or 'Pershing' or 'Greyhound' bit outs at a later date.

Include references to vodka in one out of every five lines, and make the Major scream at the top of his lungs "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH, MOTHERLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND!" when you use his Heroic Charge.

That´s 90% of voice acting for the Soviets.

It wasn't funny the first time you suggested this..and it isn't now.

Well the community could help with the sounds.
But maybe in the near future there could be some auditions.
or something like that. If the team ever intends/wants new voices.

But like stated before they need individual 26000 sound files.
so I doubt if the team wants to go trough that. well I would be willing to help, if wanted to make the sound files but thats a different story.
