The AI rush KV-2s into enemy lines with PTRD squads, Katyusha and SU-85 with the KV-2's and Katyushas usually in front.

What's up with that?

Sounds like the KV-2 is more similar to a churchil. Use it so I guess.

What a BS :) Where did You found that? KV-2 had a 110/80/80mm armor allaraound, and Pak36/38 and Stummels of Pz.III/Pz.IV were a "mosquito bites the elephant" when shooting on KV :) Once, KV had over 200 direct hits and undamaged closed the combat :)

KV-2 had M-10T, tank variant of M-10 152mm Howitzer, mod.1938. Actually, it became large caliber CANNON, with max vert. angle +18*.

40kg shell of this gun was lethal for every axis panzer of 1940-42, and could pierce 75mm of armor on a distance of 1.500m.

Interesting discussion guys.

My question about this beast (which I found to be very useful in CoH so far fwiw) is about the decision to limit its range.  In CoH you can keep your Priests out of harm's way and conduct long range barrages, whereas the KV-2 cannot. 

The stats I found after a quick google show the real world M10 (field gun version of KV-2's M10T) to had a superior range to the M101 mounted on the Priest.  (12.4km versus 11.2km), so extending the KV2's reach would also have historical support it seems.

Would it be possible to increase the KV-2 range (at a trade-off for accuracy perhaps to maintain game balance) therefore addressing some of the concerns in this thread, while maintaining the KV-2 as a CoH superunit?

Stryker - google ML-20, and compare its maximum range with that ... what Sov's have in game. Even if DEVs will change 152mm ML-20 to 122mm M-30 - it still has great range... And look - what range (without posibility to increase as Brits) "25pounder soviet analog" :)

Yep but not only that, the whole urban combat doctrine is silly underpowered compared to the other two super doctrines.

This is 100% wrong, the Urban doctrine is far and away the most overpowered doctrine in the entire mod and the main reason why Soviets are OP.  Actually, you can take everything out of the doctrine except for the first two upgrades, the double flames and partisans, and it's still overpowered.  Those two upgrades are all you need to annihilate your enemy.

As for the KV, it's fine as it is.  If anything give it a tad more armor, but if you make it much better, you go from making an already overpowered doctrine, totally unsalvageable.

KV2 , should be like AVRE ... which cost munition to shoot.
if its going to be like a STUH. then keep it the way it is..
An anti Infantry tank.

and there should be a limit of such as 2 for this tank.
