Yet another Ostheer suggestion...
« on: December 17, 2009, 11:04:55 PM »
The ideal ostheer in my opinion, would not be one with some sort of creative gimmick (such as the british mobile HQ), but one that was ideal for the German side of Company of Heroes.

What I mean by this is that the Ostheer should have certain things that the other German factions do not. One example is that the Ostheer should be able to construct trenches to balance the fact that two of the Allied nations (Brit and Rus) can construct them. The Ostheer should also be allowed to construct a howitzer without having to choose a certain command tree (refering to the Hummel of course).

However the ostheer should not have certain units both German nations possess. For example, both German nations have the ability to construct Flak 88's, allowing the ostheer to construct these would make the German nations far to powerful overall. Formost, please do not allow the Ostheer to research veterancy, it is unrealistic, makes no sense, and gives the Germans a huge advantage (No matter what Voop_Bakon has to say about it).

These are a few ground rules that may aid the development of a balanced German nation.

Sorry little brother, but I disagree with you. First and foremost, giving the Ostheer the abilities of allied nations (or in your examples the brits) would be like saying the Russians should have gotten nebelwerfers and cloaked AT guns.

As for not having weapons the other german armies posses, that would make no sense. Its the Ostheer, but it is still the German army. The eastern front without Tigers, Flak 88's and Panthers makes no sense.

Finally while I agree that they shouldn't have the ability to research veterancy, it is because it is already used and that I wish want the Ostheer to have something new, like what lord rommel or some others on the forums have suggested.

Petr I think another German faction *without* a special "gimmick" would be too similar to the existing German sides. Although it would be nice to take away Tigers/Panthers/88s, Voop is right...it's just not realistic.

I think the balancing aspect of giving the Ostheer trenches or other similar abilities to the allies could work, but honestly if anybody is concerned about balance they should raid Relic HQ and demand some answers (like why every German unit in CoH can outperform any Allied unit, each has waaaay better upgrade options [Panzerchecks for everyone? C'mon!], can purchase veterancy for ALL units, has stupidly tough and powerful tanks, AND can use GOD units like Knight's Cross Holders or the King Tiger/Jagdpanther).

Don't get me wrong, I love CoH, but not for its balance. If anything I'd like to see the devs make the Ostheer a unique and challenging faction to play.

Wow you make the Wehrmact almost sound overpowered   ::)

The games is balanced. It all comes down to who knows the game better and who can out micro the other guy, in other words, the most skillfull.
