2-man Sniper team
« on: November 30, 2013, 05:11:04 PM »
Hello. Some time ago I was playing Soviets against an Osheer AI. I was fooling around, terrorizing AI with my sniper, eventually vetting it up to lvl 3. At lvl 3 it gets an extra team member - a spotter, and I thought: "Cool, now if one of the sniper team would get sniped, another would take over his rifle". So, a german marksman fires a single shot at my snipers and - bam! - I get a double "Unit sniped!" message, both sniper team members are dead and my hard-earned veterancy is lost :(. Is it intended for the other guy to die as well, just like that last guy manning an AT gun? I am sure it was a single shot and no other AI marksmen were around to fire simultaneously. Unfortunately, I cannot provide a replay for you to look at the situation, so, can somebody from the testers or the devs look at this problem in their own games, please? Thanks in advance.

The team intended this. The sniper will survive longer in general but will be spotted more easily and will only take one one sniper bullet. Once again, this is what I meant with the community lacking knowledge that should be provided by the EF team in some kind of way. (Talking to you Ape and Darc :P )

Ah, I see. Well, in my opinion that concept is a bit arguable, frustrating and quite unrealistic, but I still see the reasoning behind this (balance: it prevents the other team member from killing the marksman instantly after his first shot). It would really be nice to have a tooltip about this or something.

I agree with chaosval, and I've messaged the EF team about this specifically.

For a mod of this size (and with this much effort), it's absolutely insane not to include some kind of overview.pdf file with the mod. There are SO many things about the new races that players will not understand. For example, the old 4 races handled veterancy completely differently. How do the new races handle it?

Another example, the Ostheer Panzernests seem to do absolutely nothing. Is this just a case of me not knowing how to use them, or a huge oversight from the developers?

The in-game hints (loading screen) say that the new races have unlockable reward vehicles, but yet when you check the unlock section, these are nowhere to be found.

What does the mod change about the original 4 races that nobody knows about, or are they exactly the same? Is the combat system, veterancy system, experience system (Commander Trees) altered at all from the original game?

As you can see, there are literally hundreds of questions that are unanswered about the 2 new factions (as well as the old 4) that the playerbase may never know because there's nowhere to check for these things. It is literally baffling that after 6 years of development, nobody has taken the time to make some kind of guide.

The tips are in some areas from older EF versions and are not up to date all the time.
EF does not change Wehr, PE, US or CW. Only exception is the addition of several reward units.

There are unit guides for both ostheer and soviets, you get the option to view them when you install eastern front.

A unit guide:
