On replacing the IS-3...
« on: May 18, 2013, 07:53:07 PM »
So, I have become aware that the development team is intending to remove the IS-3... and I'm okay with that. Sure, I would prefer you guys leave it in so the Soviets can still have their King Tiger equivalent, but if you want to remove that is fine too.

However, I do take issue with trying to make the IS-2 Mod. 1944 its replacement and making the Tank Hall IS-2 the Mod. 1943. The Model 1943 only saw a very short production run before being replaced by the Mod. 1944, and neither were properly the equivalent of the King Tiger. If you guys insist on replacing the IS-3 with the IS-2, then I recommend removing the IS-2 from the Tank Hall altogether and making it a call-in akin to the Tiger or Pershing (that is, you can have several of them on the map at once and replace losses, but there is a limit in how many you can call in).

We can keep the IS3, as long as any 2D/3D Dev from our team wants to make a new model for it. That's the problem right now.

IS3 is quite different from IS2, so you barely would get anything from the IS2 to use it as base for the IS3.

I don't think the intention is to give the Soviets some King Tiger equivalent, the King is the King and that's likely how it's going to stay. The M1943/M1944 plan is to save us time when replacing models (which we need to do since the IS-3 model isn't ours). Production numbers don't figure into the decision... if it was built and saw combat, that's more than enough for us.

As for removing the IS-2 from the tank hall and making it a call-in like a Tiger, that's one for the balance team, but I don't know if they'd agree (and I believe it's been suggested/shot-down before).

Basically, if we replace the IS3 with the M1944 IS2, it will basically have the same stats and everything as the IS3, just that it will have a different model.

And yes, king tiger will always be king, the IS3 right now still wont beat a king tiger 1v1.

Can someone explain something to me please?

You say that the IS-3 model isn't yours, but you're still using it. Why can't you guys keep on using it?

We can't use it because Digital Mind Soft refused all CoH modifications use of Men of War models (which is what the IS-3 is from). We're still using it because we have nothing to replace it with. DMS hasn't exactly been rigorously enforcing their refusal but we still have to comply, especially as one of the larger CoH mods. Also, it's good not to make a habit of using 3rd party models, this means we have full rights to our work without any ugly IP business.

I see. Then why not make your own model? You guys have some very talented modellers and texturers (not that I want to add more work load to you guys or anything).

Maybe you can remove the IS3 and if any modeller or texturer has a litte bit time then they could make a New model.

I have a lot of shit to do, and a lot of shit I want to do, but a new IS-3 model isn't on my list so I doubt you'll be seeing an IS3 again. Besides having an animated model, I seem to remember the deciding factor for IS3 inclusion back in 2011 was 'It looks cool', which is hardly a winning argument given the fact it didn't even see combat during WW2. You might as well be asking us to add a T-54.

So no IS-7 in easternfront mod. Sorry.
May the force be with you.

I was just having a laugh. IS-3, realistically, shouldn't be in this game. Bring back the SU-100.

So, are you suggesting to use the SU100 as reward unit of the ISU152 rather than the IS3? I would say no as well. If we remove the IS3 the ISU152 might be left alone.

Well the soviets were the only one of the allies with tanks which could be considered "super tanks", so why not make the replacement something which qualifies as a super tank

Then again, the SU-100 was basically the soviet Jagdpanther... That could work

But we also could use-
IS2-M1944 (or IS2 Ace)
ISU-122 or ISU-122s (which looks quite sexy)

THough in my opinion, i love the IS3 and would like to see it again. The Kugelblitz was in the same position in terms of historical use

I don't know dudes, the IS-3 shouldn't be in the mod, the SU-100 should (and it looks sexy). Just make it a late game doctrinal unit, and yes, may as well have it as the reward unit for the ISU-152. If you give the ISU-152 a 30sec reload between each shot, people may consider swapping it for something else.
