Guards Upgrade
« on: October 14, 2012, 05:00:23 PM »
I see the guards can either choose 75 mun SVT or 65 mun PPS SMG.  AFAIK obviously SVTs are better longer and PPS short.  How do SVTs Compare to other rifles (G43, Moisin, etc).  How does the PPS compare to other SMG (M1 Thompson, STG-44, MP40, Sten, etc).  If you had Shock Guards upgrade, which upgrade in general do you like better for the Shock Guards? SVT or PPS?

Pretty much SVT = g43, and PPS is similar to STGs, but a bit weaker on the move.

Abuse is abuse and has to go.

pretty much yes. CS PPS is basically a beefed up mp40 with higher moving accuracy.

gun stats:
SVT
dmg: 10
acc:0.35/0.55/0.75
moving acc: 0.5
PPS
dmg: 5
acc: 0.1/0.35/0.65
moving acc: 0.7
burst: 1.75-1.25

These are correct for 1.6. The PPS-43 can be used in an aggressive mode until MP44s hit the field and then should be used more like MP40s.

So if you have shock guards upgrade PPS is the better more cost effective option in most cases?

Use the PPS-43 in an aggressive assault type of movement since the DP-28 fires on the the move and use the SVTs to deal damage at all ranges effectively (good multipurpose assualt/defense)

There's not really a "Better" option. Try to keep a mixed flavor in your guards. I usually do 2 SVT to 1 PPS but whatever works

It's worth noting that the moving accuracy of the DP-28 is lowered in the next patch. So what currently seems like a really strong PPS squad is actually due a lot to the DP-28 adding significant firepower while moving.

CS PPS is an MP40 in practically every way. MP40s have a tendency to ignore armour and Axis have a lot of better armour types so that's why they seem better.

SVT:
Damage 14
Accuracy 0.45 / 0.65 / 0.75

Darc quoted the NI SVT which is based on the M1 Garand and weaker.

Comparison of DPS:
# svt_rifle.rgd
  | Zaxis S DPS = 8.48
  | Zaxis M DPS = 5.18
  | Zaxis L DPS = 2.69

# pps_smg_r.rgd
  | Zaxis S DPS = 16.44
  | Zaxis M DPS = 4.27
  | Zaxis L DPS = 1.07

As you can see, PPSs are very strong up close but the SVT already does more at midrange and at long range it's no contest. SMGs are better for killing off whole enemy squads but they also mean your squad is more vulnerable and easier to escape from. Basically, the choice is yours. The DP-28 normally gives me plenty of firepower so I actually prefer SVTs. Plus they're cooler.

Is that DPS for each single rifle/SMG?  If it is then i can imagine a single guard with only PPS doing a better job killing stuff faster close range than an entire conscripts squad.  Shows how elite (and expensive) Guards are.
