Help with install
« on: December 06, 2011, 10:07:41 PM »
I just installed EF (latest version) to a different folder than the one suggested. D:\chris\games\strategy\coh is the main folder that the installer wanted to install EF but i chose to create a subfolder inside coh and install there. The mod doesn't load, should i install again to the main folder that the installer suggests? Thanks for any help.

Yeah chances are that's all you need to do.

If not though bring it up in the bugs and issues forum.

EF doesn't have to install to the default location but IT DOES have to be installed into the main CoH folder, not anywhere else or a subfolder. In other words, you can install CoH anywhere you like but EF has to be installed to the exact same path.

Sorry for posting in the wrong section, i copied the extracted files from the subfolder to the main folder of coh but still didn't work but apparently it was a framework update problem and it downloaded it so the mod started after an update was found and downloaded. The problem now is that the mod stucks at the loading screen when a map is loading. The first time ctrl+alt+del didn't work so i had to hit reset button and restart my pc. The second time i went to the desktop while it was loading and when it stuck again i close the .exe file from the task manager but i managed to see that there was an error report saying that it cannot create error report because there is not enough space in the temp folder. Any help with this?

I just tried to load the vanilla game, a campaign map and it doesn't load, i get the same error, i didn't expect the core game not to load at all.

OK, i just read the associated to my problem post: i have 2 GB of RAM, if i don't want to mess with the booster and the virtual memory process i won't be able to play the mod?

While I think you should upgrade your RAM anyway, the issue is probably to do with you playing with the files. Best bet would be a complete uninstall and clean reinstall. Just moving the files won't work because the registry entries point to the old location - the mod/game will fail to initialise.

I forgot to mention that just copying the files didn't work so afterwards i uninstalled and reinstalled EF, then i managed to log in and have this probable RAM issue. Why EF needs so much memory? Does this really affects the game in a good way? It seems to me like a very demanding mod. Too bad because i also think it's great and i can't play it. I also find strange the fact that vcoh doesn't load now. Uninstalling EF should fix this i guess, i will try later. Thanks for your reply.

Did you try defragmenting your drive?

I defragment regularly but the "error temp" error probably has no relation to defragmentation, i will try again though.

I got an "Unable to create report. Please verify there's enough space in your TEMP folder" error message or Eastern Front just freezes and the sound effects loops and I have to restart my PC or just crashes while loading a map.

This is a problem you'll likely only find in 32 bit OS.

You can try the following:

  • Close RelicDownloader (as explained in the First Post).
  • Use lower graphics settings.
  • Increase your PC's virtual memory.
  • Close all background programs you don't need before playing, eg. Web Browsers, Windows Explorer instances.
  • Download, install & use Game Booster before playing EF.
  • You can create a shorcut to run EF instead of EF launcher, some users have claimed this helped to improve their performance. Check this topic for help: How to create an Eastern Front shorcut.

Try to have at least 3GB to 4GB in your pc, remember that Eastern Front uses more resources than Tales of Valor which uses more resources than the previous games(Original Company of Heroes and Opposing Fronts). If the problem persists, you should consider migrating to a 64 bits OS.
