Isolated number of available connections
« on: August 04, 2010, 06:29:51 AM »
Of the three friends that I have that have installed EF, I cannot play with any of them.  I can find, on occasion, one or two games that are starting and join them, but I know there are more out there.

I think the issue is that they ALL have the steam version of CoH.  Please look into this.  We are going to try running it without steam.  Will update soon...

Edit:  Ok, so the fact that they have ANY expansion or version of CoH downloaded from steam causes EF to think they have an incompatible version of the game.  Please fix this :(...

Edit:  Steam versions cannot play with each other either.

You can check if it's by network issues; when your friend host a game tell him to invite you, left click on your name on his friendlist and choose that command.

If you got an error after trying to accept, check the indicator next your name on the upper right corner if you are correctly connected(green), connected but with errors(Yellow) or disconnected(red).

Results:

a) If you have the green one and cannot join, its likely your IP(internet protocol) address are from unreachable places, not necessary means other countries or states, just means that probably you get internet service from different companies, hence use their own IP. You can set up a proxy or use tunneling apps such as Hamachi or Tunngle.

b) If it's yellow you are behind a router, you must set(or ask to) open the ports of CoH; it doesn't matter which one will be open but make sure that isn't used by others.

c) Your connection isn't available, this doesn't necessary means that you haven't internet connection at the momment, just that the server couldn't authenticate your request. If that happens all the time, perhaps you are downloading stuff or someone else does ;). In my country I have an ISP(Internet Service Provider) that uses the same connection in the same vicinity. That means if two users from differents homes want to download from rapidshare, the one who comes first wins ;). I remember that in friday's night i used to reach high speeds.. i wonder why ::)?

I hope this helps you, if not... well let's hope that the next one achieve it ;D!!

EDIT: I have a ToV Steam key, we can try :-\... or are you completely sure?

I am fairly sure that the issue is incompatible versions caused by steam vs. retail.

The connectivity remains green while attempting to connect.

Whoever sends the invite gets a message "could not invite... incompatible version etc"

The recipient gets a message "you were invited to a game but were unable to join... blah blah"

I have checked with about 5 people that I was able to connect to and they have all had retail.

Did you ever sort this out? I have the same issue. I have two COH accounts, one steam and one non steam and have the same issue. When playing with others who do not have steam it all works fine but the one time I tried to play with another steam user I could not connect with my steam or none steam account.

I thought it might be a folder issue as the steam is in a different pace to retail COh.

No issues with connections, we are all in the same room on a lan. We are having to play vanilla COH if steam only boys want to play which is a shame as EF is great.

Any solutions would be helpful.

You should reinstall EF. I think one of the patches were installed to the wrong directory. Remember, you have to choose the steam game directory when you install each patch or it will default to the program files location I'm pretty sure. Steam versions work perfectly fine with EF when installed correctly.
If you get into an argument with me, you're wrong.
