Campaign?
« on: October 26, 2010, 07:58:03 PM »
Sooo I've played EIRR mod for a while, and they have their own multiplayer campaign. They use TripleA for map. I wonder if it could work in EF... Obviously there are some differneces between EIRR and EF, but I believe that we can overcome those obstacles.
Any ideas?

ok.
1. Thanks blackbishop
2. EiRR is Europe in Ruins: Reineforcements mod. It's tactical combat CoH ( no bases or strategic points), only combat. You choose faction and doctrine at the very beginning, so you play for instance Blitzkrieg for a whole time. Anyway, check this: http://www.europeinruins.com/
3. Triple A is... antother game. Very similiar to Hearts of Iron series. You have a map, and play in turns. Check this as an example: http://triplea.sourceforge.net/newScreens/TripleA_new_world_order_quartersize.jpg
4. Saying/writing multiplayer campaign I meant that all players in their games would play in campaign. Let's say that you fight with SU in province, which you have been assasigned by your Commander - I'll use Moscov as an example. You play few multiplayer games, and win some of them. Also you don't fight alone in the province, however this battle is shared to smaller games. At the end we sum up the points earned and declare, who has taken the province.

The campaign thing sounds MMOish. What benefit is there for taking a "province"?

It depends how you take the province. If your Commander knows strategy well, he can cut off some enemy units in single province. After defeating them they will have to wait turn or two to be able to play again, as their forces had surrended.
Also taking enemy province drives you closer to enemy Capital, which must fall if you want to win.
In the beginning of every turn your CO decides where to use your company. The best would be use one company all the time (ie. making new account like CephalosBK - Cephalos playing Blitzkrieg, or GodlikedennisUW - Urban Warfare). Every company has attack and defense value a/d:
Attacking Companies: Terror, Breakthrough, Tank Hunters 3/1
Deffensive Companies: Deffensive, Propaganda, Schorched Earth 1/3
Fast Attack Companies: Blitzkrieg, Urban Warfare, Luftwaffe 2/2
Let's say that you and your allies had won battle in province. If you were defending you add Defense points. Ie. Double Propaganda and one Breakthrough will give 8 points. If attacking, those companies would get only 5 points.
After turn ( which takes let's say 2 days) we sum up all points won in provinces and decide who has won.
Sounds quite complicated, but it's easy.

I don't think this idea would work here, as EF strives to keep CoH spirit.

I agree that EF must keep the CoH spirit. I don't say that it must change to something similiar to EIRR ( however I'd love to play Soviets in EIRR... maybe in far far future). I say that campaign would be normal playing multiplayer games... with a purpose of the campaign.

I meant in terms of EIR, not HoI or that other game which is obviously important from a strategic point of view. Unless that feature isn't actually in EIR and I'm having a brain malfunction with exams coming up...
