Noobs and chokepoint maps.
« on: May 23, 2010, 08:57:00 PM »
Why do so many noobs and Scheldte veterans play this mod?

60% of the people I see have a negative win/loss ratio.

And most of the games are Hochwald, Scheldte, Leningrad and Zhytomyr.

Tannenberg, Kursk, Seelow, all of the 4v4 maps and many other maps are excellent and needs to be played more.

Especially Berlin, that shit is epic!

It is so much easier to just go into the normal CoH and press the automacth buttom. Beside the less competitive you are the less balance mean to you and since USSR always has been much stronger especially in 1.00 and 1.10 competitive players stay away, which is a shame since a more mixed community would be nice.

The worse part comes when they start talking on the balance boards...

Whoever made Tannenburg needs to make more maps.

Whoever made Leningrad and Moscow needs to stop.

Are we talking about the "old" Moscow?
Or the new one?

I already tried it out the first day of 1.10 when I was adjusting to the new Soviet gameplay.  Every patch I play 1 round as Soviets against the AI to test out and understand the new teching order and statistics before I go back to playing as Wehrmacht against humans.

Having only 2 fuels on the map that are extremely close to the bases is sketchy.  It's a little like Semios except the player who is losing badly doesn't get penalized as badly as he would be in Semios.  In both Semios and Moscow, each player has a high fuel point very close to their base that is easy to defend.  The difference is that in Semios you have a lot more resources (not just a few munis, but some fuel too) in the middle near the VPs, so if you are the superior player, even though your opponent can still sit on that 1 high fuel near his base, you will still be rewarded more for dominating the map, and you can out-tech him more if he doesn't get his butt out of his base area and fight you.

Sure there is VP, but there is no sense of pressure on the losing player to fight competitively quickly in Moscow because they rarely have to worry about being out-teched.  Fuel income the whole game should be equal unless one of the players is so noob he cannot even hold on to the fuel next to his base.
Therefore, the mentality of the losing player with only his high fuel and high munition resource near his base becomes: "OK I'm losing, but I'll just sit tight and defend that one high fuel and wait for higher tech units.  I'm not really scared because my opponent can't out-tech me as long as I defend my high fuel, and all he has is more munitions, but that's not a problem either, because I also have a high munitions (which is in range of the base mg) near my base too.  Sure the VPs are counting down, but I can always tech fast enough."
This mentality is especially true with the Soviets.

Finally, the meat of the fighting occurs near the VPs, but there is little in terms of cover or strategic houses in that area of Moscow.  This of course, isn't all too important, considering that left hand side Angoville also lacks sufficient cover; although maps like that make up for it with strategic houses on the other side.
