Yes, I did also notice the increased range, but what I need (dunno about u guys) when I build a stationary MG is to be able to suppress incoming infantry, and locking down an area of approach. They do a fair good job on bridges! The long range realle has an edge here, but apart from very narrow corridors, they under perform IMO.
I do see the point in having a variety in MG emplacements though, and some people would advocate that the increased range support their style of play more.
