KV-1 appliqué armor upgrade?
« on: February 27, 2012, 05:29:50 AM »
What if for around 75 munitions, a non 85mm KV-1 could get an appliqué armor upgrade which would slightly decrease penetration from AT weapons?

Interesting, but It might have to wait untill after the Ostheer is done when the Soviet skins will be remastered.
They are in front of us, behind us, and we are flanked on both sides by an enemy that outnumbers us 29:1. They can't get away from us now!

I dont think it has anything to do with skins :P. I has to do with improing the KV-1. Whats the justification for it?

As @MBJrP36 pointed out, an "appliqué armor" will be just a "re-skin", because that thing was a coat for magnetic grenades meaning that it won't really improve the tank's armour at all.

Applique is the extra armored plates on the hull and turret. KV-1 we have already has applique armour... on the turret at least.

Anyway, to do this would mean modifying the model which is something we won't do until we remake the Soviet stuff once the Ostheer is out.

And what is it, what kind of armor to use against magnetic grenade? I'm curious and ready to be enlighted ;D

It's like German zimmerit. Stops the thing from sticking cos it's a really rough surface.

You means it's like zimmerit, but being a plate instead or you and bishop mean it's zimmerit?

I don't know what Applique armour is, just saying what zimmerit is.

Just to clear up the confusion... no Applique isn't like Zimmerit. Applique is simply extra armor plates added to the hull and turret for extra protection against projectiles, it didn't protect against magnetic mines.

KV-1A (in German service) without applique

KV-1E with applique (the one we have in game )-
