Countering Rangers
« on: March 28, 2011, 05:50:10 AM »
Note: I'm talking about vanilla CoH in this question.

What is the best way to stop Ranger spamming as the Wermacht? I haven't been able to come up with any effective way to do so. They have the 2 bazooka's to take out bunker's and vehicles, even Panzer 4's, and they have the Thompson upgrade which munches up infantry.

Any advice would be appreciated.

supress them, then watch their fire-up rage, then supress again and crush!

Flames/snipers/MP44s and mines are good against rangers.
If you get into an argument with me, you're wrong.

Knight Cross Holders vet3
and of course volksgrenadiers & Blitzkrieg tactics and assaultgrenades

Assaultgrenades stunn the enemy even if they use fire-up.

Ostwinds on the reverse. When their fire up is over they become sitting ducks to any T3 and T4 vechicles (and artillery) since all tank/armored car guns since all guns have more range than bazookas. You just have to have some flat ground to retreat (tactically withdraw) on.
You can also produce cheaper Volks (with MP40 if the enemy has Thompsons) and get a med bunker. 3 Volks should win with 2 Rangers.
...its been said before but mines are good counters to anything. You just need to have time to plant them.

Rangers is that they are the most expensive infantry too upkeep (17MP/min) and to reinforce (45MP/man). Take youre time, dont try to kill the whole blob at once. Any purely anti infantry unit should do the trick but it will take time to win an attrition battle.

If you can micromanage then have some puma's (unupgraded) or Armoured Cards behind MP44 units. have the puma/AC kite the bazooka's and your opponent will be forced to charge the MP44's and get massacered or they will sit in cover getting gunned down by your puma's/AC's. This tactic takes a fair bit of micro management but I preffer it to other counters because it is much cheaper and it comes into the game much earlier. This tactic works just as well against airborne but you've gotta be wary of AT gun drops against airbourne. If I'm against USA I will try to get repair bunker/advanced repair and motars/nebs because AT guns will ruin the tactic. Of course my whole strategy will be differnet If I know that my opponent is trying to rush his own AC's, you've gotta check if he gets the BAR's or the motor pool before he can put them to use.

I've had some success using rank 3 Flakpanzers backed up by Knights Cross Holders picking up abandoned Bazooka's as they go. I did try flamethrower pioneers but it didn't go very well!

Panzer IVs with skirts are a fairly straightforward solution. Just make sure you have pios nearby to repair the PIVs between engagements.

Ranger spams don't do well if they are being severly mortared...

It happened to me, I was doing so well until then...
