No retreat and no vet
« on: January 28, 2010, 04:00:43 PM »
There is a lot of potential in this mod but there is two things that really annoy me.
______________________________________________________
1. The absense of any veterancy system. You say that the three infantry units symbolize the veterancy. Conscripts are fresh troops, strelky are in the middle and guards are hardcore supermen...

But what about the rest of the army? Mortars? Tanks? Snipers? They don't have 3 units representating the different stages of veterancy.

Wehrmacht also have 3 infantry units very similar to your current "symbols of veterancy": Volksgrenadiers, Grenadiers and Knights Cross Holders, but you can still vet them up...

All other armies have veterancy (Even the Ostheer suggestions have a special veterancy system.) You are making the soviets boring by leaving out veterancy. And if you decided to add veterancy to the soviets, it should be unique.
______________________________________________________
2. Why can't the soviets retreat? Is it because in history they were not allowed to retreat? I don't know if it is true or if it is a Hollywood myth.

Anyways, retreating is one of the basics of the CoH tactics. I know that you guys try to make the soviets unique, but PLEASE, give my poor conscripts the ability to retreat. Even if it's historically inaccurate. This game was never meant to be realistic or 100% historical accurate, (crocodiles and pershings anyone?)

If you add retreat, you could remove the officer's horrible heroic charge without any penalties which makes the soviets ultra non-micro dependant... (and decrease the radius of the officers arty barrage as stated in another topic)
______________________________________________________

That's enough hate from me... Once again, this mod is awesome, but the current gameplay system need some serious rethinking. On the release there was like 15 games up at all times, but now i can barely see one or two games and those have like one or two guys in them. You should not try to make the soviets an "alien faction" with no retreat, no costs for abilites, no veterancy. You guys stray too far away from the original awesome CoH. (I know that the British were not so similar to the original factions but they can retreat, OP, and have costs for their abilites.)

I think by doing this you are loosing the pr0 players, (btw, EF automatch broken?)

Nuff' said..

1. Upgrade in armoury. It gives you abilitys, weapons and better training.

2. No retreat makes the player evolve, if you play the soviets right you dont need to retreat. They are cheap, and meant to be replaced not reinforced. Thats how you play. If you dont like supresion then use the fire up or excecute abilitys. If you dont like No retreat, place as another country, or put up with it and change how you play.

I agree with Hurson 100%. I foresee the 'no retreat' feature being a major balance problem in the future. Also the fact that there is not veterancy system really makes Soviet gameplay one-dimensional. Not caring about unit preservation is one less tactical decision a player has to make and makes the gameplay wooden.

Change your tactics.

You don't have the "I made a mistake, run!" button as the soviets.  So freaking SCOUT!

EDIT:

1.  Upgrade unit type you want vetted in the armory.

2.  You're supposed to not care about units as the soviets.  That's their playing style!
