My Calendar Story
« on: November 13, 2015, 03:15:54 AM »
Now this is a story, all about how my calendars got flip-turned upside-down.
And i'd like to take a minute just sit right there, i'll tell you how my calendars became subject to Murphys law...

13/10/15
After spending months working on my calendars, i finally took the final design down to a local office supplies store. I had them print a prototype copy to see how it would turn out, which i then picked up later that afternoon. It looked fine, so i asked them to print me 20 more copies to be picked up next week.

20/10/15
Having sent the prototype off to a friend in Mexico as quickly as possible due to the Mexican post office being as slow as a Tiger with a destroyed engine, i collected the rest of the calendars.

Upon returning home i thought i had better inspect each calendar to make sure there were no duds before sending them overseas. 'Twas a good thing i did, too, as as many as 7 of them were defective!

21/10/15
Took the defective calendars back, asking them to reprint them for free.

27/10/15
Returned to pick up the replacements, and guess what? I was instead presented with the exact same calendars i had returned and asked them to reprint! Allegedly it was because there were too many people working on the job, leading to mis-communication.

A nice girl then said she would redo them personally, ready to be picked up next week.

03/11/15
The day before i was supposed to pick them up, the girl called in sick and was therefore unable to make the new calendars herself.

Further compounding the problem, their printers started acting up allegedly due to computer senility or something, so that store was not able to print them until getting their new printers on the 17th.

I was then sent to another one of their stores quite far from my house, however it wasn't much of a detour from a bookshop i like to visit, so oh well.

04/11/15
This new store printed out another prototype as i waited. It turned out fine, so i then ordered the rest to be picked up next week.

10/11/15
The day before i was scheduled to pick them up, i received a phone call saying that they had just started printing my calendars when their printer broke, and the technician was unable to fix it. (Nice how i give them a whole week to do them, and they wait until the day before they're needed before starting on them...)

I was subsequently sent to yet another one of their stores, this one all the way into the city.

11/11/15
Feeling like Victor Meldrew now, i made my way into the city wondering what was going to go wrong this time.

They had all the calendars printed when i arrived which came as a surprise to me, however upon inspection i found that the binding was incomplete and half of them had the holes punched too close to the middle, cutting out some of my text.

The binding was easily redone, however i did have to wait around for the other half to be reprinted and the holes repunched, for which they decided to charge me this time - $1 each!

WIth all they mixed up however, they did end up undercharging me quite significantly, saving me several hundred dollars in the end so i can't really complain about that extra charge for punching the new holes.

There was also a nice guy at the city store who happened to be a Company of Heroes fan, so he was happy to receive one of my calendars as well. (I was also glad to hear he hated CoH2 as well. :P ) So i guess it was all worth it in the end.

And so, after a month of being fucked around seemingly to no end, i am happy to say that i finally got all of my calendars done. (Although some of them still had poorly-punched holes, but i'm afraid they're going to have to do.)

I still have several copies left, so if anybody would like one please let me know soon.

Yeah, they tend to stick together when they're fresh off the press. 8)

Haha, i was actually debating with myself whether to include that one or not. I had several other less interesting trivia pieces i was considering, but i chose that one because i thought it might be less well-known.

I did have an idea for a 2017 calendar, and i would love to do a 2018 Great War 1918 mod calendar, but unless i can find another shop to print them i fear my Company of Heroes decenary calendar will be my last. I'm not going through all that shit again. :(
