Strategy and Tactics / [3.1] Commonwealth Units Overpowered?

Feel free to give basic hints on good gameplay is it's obvious that I'm "doing it wrong," but here's the jist of things:
Whether on 'Easy' or 'Normal', the Commonwealth easily defeats me in the early game when I play Panzer Elite.
For one thing, each of the Commonwealth's basic infantry is worth at least two or three units of Panzergrenadiers, fighting from cover -- even when I use anti-personnel grenades or long-range rifles. To make matters worse, their infantry rifles are effective against my scout car, making short work of the vehicle when it is confronted by more than one squad at a time. Often, the MG on the scout car merely pins, but does not eliminate, one enemy unit.
Secondly, the Commonwealth's Bren carrier takes no damage from my infantry, who are usually still teching up to anti-tank grenades when it arrives, and could anyway only throw one grenade before having to recharge over 100+ seconds.
I've tried to play a quick game, seizing points far afield to distract some of the enemy's strength, and dropping anti-tank mines everywhere, but the Bren's range means that it rarely has to choose battles on my terms by moving through chokepoints.
Any advice? Thanks in advance.
