It's also unfortunate that 80% of the few games that are hosted are comp stomps. leaving a very small margin for people who want to play against other people.

I don't like the idea of them being a true AT weapon but I would like to see them have a very small chance to cause engine damage.

I would try to make an appearance provided classes don't get in the way...

Red Army Suggestions / Re: Recrewing weapons and starting off as Soviet
« on: August 12, 2010, 01:55:36 AM »
First and most simply, when you start off as the other factions you start with a unit in play, ie pioneers, engineers, infantry, etc.  But the Soviets start with nothing, they should start with a basic unit (engineer).

No it is part of what makes them unique.

Quote
Second and more irritating than the first is that soviets can't recrew weapons.  Ie, a AT gun that has had it's crew killed cannot be re manned by other units.

Same goes for being able to grab an enemy heavy mg, mortar, AT Gun, etc.

Haven't had a chance to crew a flak88 but that probably doesn't work either. pretty much seems like all soviet infantry cannot recrew any weapons.
This is a bug that cannot be fixed and has been talked about countless times by people much like yourself that don't do their research before posting.

Quote
Same also goes for carried upgrades such as light machine guns, bazooka's etc
Yes they can pick them up I had a strelky squad with schrecks earlier today.

Quote
Reinforcemnt of at crew is also too expensive 96 per unit (pak38 is only 30), and they reinforce too fast.
Update.

Quote
No necessarilly a bug but It would be nice if upgrades were retroactive for units.  if not the 85mm for the t34, how about upgrade options for infantry.
Again it is what sets them apart. If both the no start unit and non-retroactive upgrades elements were changed the Soviets would be a slightly different America.

First of all, this was not a question, and as such, it cannot be "Answered". I am simply adding my suggestion (as this is a suggestion thread).

I respectfully disagree with the idea that forcing upgrades on only new units adds "flavor" to the Russian faction.

The Russians already have their own flavor in unit types, doctrines, and conscripts.

Please change the upgrade mechanic to affect all units deployed and not simply new ones.

My turn to be an asshat, asshat. I wasn't "answering you", I was telling you that your "suggestion" was well dumb and why it is dumb (others think so to). Also your "suggestion" wasn't phrased as a suggestion but instead you phrased it as a demand. So in conclusion I (and others) respectfully disagree with you on everything that you have said. :P

Also saying "unit types" and then saying conscripts is redundant as conscripts are a unit type.

Note to mods: Sorry if this is a bit flamey this guy is just getting on my nerves for some reason.

Balance Discussion / Re: Guards Firepower
« on: August 10, 2010, 11:02:33 PM »
The reason i think tht some people think the Guards should be superior to other Soviet infantry is because of the manpower cost (compared to the other ones) and the name. In reality Guard units were armed with SMGs a lot due to their purpose of Shock atttacks. In reality Guard units were Shock Troops, but they were elite Shock Troops.

Having them equipped with SMGs would make little sense in the begining (because the regular Guards are meant to represent an elite defensive troop, being armed with Medium to Long range SVT-40s and grenades), but the Shock Guard upgrade should add SMGs (any SMG would work PPD-40, PPSH-41, PPS-43, but i think the Fedorov Avtomat would be the best since it would work at all ranges) to at least half the Guards to make them super versitile.

As they stand right now though they are great and effective units, but the SMGs would make them so much better.

Going half and half on long and short range weapons is not a good idea because instead of them being good at long/med like they are now or being good at med/short if they had SMG's they would be just marginal at all ranges because only half of the unit would be effective.

It is part of the "Russian Flavor" that sets them apart from the rest of the other nations. If that is removed they turn into a slightly different America.
Also yes it does serve a purpose, it forces you to think before mindlessly fielding units. I know that every time I build my first strelky I have the decision to wait and upgrade or build it now (usually I wait the 20 seconds). The same goes for nearly all the other units the soviets you have the decision between "gimme now!" or "I can wait, get the upgrade".
Another thing to remember is a vet 3 maybe even a vet 2 base squad is better than a vet 0 upgraded squad so "suiciding" your units is well... stupid and idiotic.

Hey!

The Devs have stated many times that they do not endorse/help people attempting to mod their mod. So the probability of your question getting answered (by a dev) is next to none. But good luck trying to get it to work.

Red Army Suggestions / Re: Contradictory vet and Gameplay
« on: August 06, 2010, 05:43:45 AM »
The only Russian infantry that can be easily be vetted up are guards , especially shock guards

cheers :)

A well positioned dp28 team can get vet 3 in a hurry especially if you go propaganda and entrench the little fellas.
