General Discussion / A Few Thoughts on Possible Improvments
« on: February 05, 2012, 09:00:22 AM »
It's been a while with classes and everything so I haven't had the time to post anything. I bumped into a few really cool features in other mods for CoH a little while back. They were able to modify new base buildings, have a mortar with wheels, and code in new game ending window pictures. Thing is I recommended these things a few years back and was wondering if they are possible to incorporate into the game now. It's not late you know! Anyways great jobs on the mod, nice to know the the developers never stopped support for the mod. So, serious props to the devs. These are just ideas, and I'm pretty sure many of you have already wondered about these :) Would be great to hear your opinions and other ideas!

Here's the "mortar",

the unique arty firebase,

Well I recently bought an M1965 Rain Jacket at a flea market and I bumped into a video of it on Youtube. The video has a piano piece I remember playing on violin before, bu the problem is that I can't remember its name.

Here's the link:
Vintage 1968 pattern M-65 Field Jacket

If you can find it then thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Well I would prefer a map in English, and am still looking for them. Can you please just wait a while until I'm positive I can't find a good map! Thanks anyways! By the way I found a bunch of good audio files for the presentation. If you would like to hear them, here is the link:

Thanks so much for all the suggestions! Right now I'm looking for a map of both the western front and the eastern front, maybe even the Italian front! The thing is that I have an actual map, but I rather use a transparency as they are brighter and my map is actually very worn. If you can find a good picture that would be very nice!

Oh by the way I might try to use sounds on the battlefield from WW1 if I can find some. I think the artillery rounds, machine gun fire, and "colorful" language will help my lazy students stay awake. Well they are AP European History students, so I want to immerse them in the first modern war of the 20th century. More exciting for some than Victorian England(Which I have a keen interest in).

P.S As always you have my heartfelt gratitude. Well you guys are officially awesome teacher's assistants!

Hey guys! I was wondering if you guys could help me with something. Well I'm doing a presentation on the First World War, so I kind of need some ideas. As most of you know, I am best in WW2, so some help would be greatly appreciated!

Requirements:
1. Has to be under ten minutes
2. Can't be inappropriate
3. No access to a computer in the classroom due to a technical problem(Lap top battery is whack)
4. For high school students

Things I do have:
1. French Adrian Helmet
2. A Transparency Projector with transparencies
3. Basic school supplies
4. A DVD player and TV in the classroom
5. A CD player

So this is what I got so far:
1. Introduction to WW1
2. Events leading up to war
3. Status of the great powers, weapons, strategies, etc...
4. Progress of the war(Somme, Verdun, Amiens and 100 Days Offensive, etc...)
5. Aftermath of war(Treaty of Versailles, Article 231, WW2)
6. Trivia game(with candy!)

I was wondering if you had any suggestions to make this presentation interesting! If you do then you have my heartfelt gratitude as a teacher.

Bugs & Tech Support / Re: Red Tide/ Blitzkrieg Challenge
« on: January 24, 2011, 12:32:09 AM »
The thing is that I found the map, but when I start a game with it becomes a standard game of VP, Annihilation, or Annihilation with no Pop Cap. Seems to me that there is nothing special about the map.O rit could be an error on my behalf.

Commendations to the developers on behalf of a fantastic new patch! I'm still testing the recrewing, and RMC. The first problem I ran into is how to enter the challenge mode. When I select the challenge mode, the only thing I start playing is another skirmish! Any tips on what I am doing incorrectly?

P.S Thanks for the awesome patch, and props to Cope for fixing the bug!

Eastern Front / Re: Why did Germany lose on the Eastern Front
« on: January 09, 2011, 02:14:35 PM »
Reasons why the Germans lost on the Eastern Front and eventually the entirety of the Second World War:

1) The very reliable and well-rounded T-34. Produced on such a large scale, outnumbered the Germans greatly.
Watch this:
Top Ten Tanks- # 1: The T-34

2) Russians and General Winter, bad idea. Finns, Germans, Swedes, French have all failed trying to tame Russia.

3) German overconfidence, and underestimation of the Soviet forces.

4) Lots of  tactical errors like the loss of the 6th Army at Stalingrad, the lack of winter equipment, and the very stupid failure at Kursk in 1943.

5) The sheer numbers and resources of the Red Army.

6) Germany waging a war against Great Britain which has the largest empire, the US which is the industrial and economic superpower of the world, and the Soviet Union with the worlds largest army.

Whew! It's been awhile. Just finished my finals and started playing COH again. Strangely enough I somehow played a skirmish with some buddies, and we lost because my friends didn't base rush. In my opinion the only way to beat an Expert Computer on a team skirmish is to destroy their base, otherwise they will eventually overwhelm you with their superior number and resources. What do you guys think about the Expert Computer players? How do you play against them? Thanks for reading!

No the French were actually losing after Russia sued for peace, allowing the Germans to concentrate on the Western Front. The Germans reached 40 miles within Paris at the Second Battle of the Marne. The British and the Americans bailed them out.

Hey guys, I found this article a couple days ago and I thought you might want to read it. No offense to anybody who is French! I think it's kind of funny.

French Military History in a Nutshell

Gallic Wars: Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian.

Hundred Years War: Mostly lost, saved at last by a female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare - "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchmen."

Italian Wars: Lost. France becomes the first and only country ever to lose two wars when fighting Italians.

Wars of Religion: France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots.

Thirty Years' War: France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.

War of Devolution: Tied; Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux.

The Dutch War: Tied.

War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War: Lost, but claimed as a tie. Deluded Frogophiles the world over label the period as the height of French Military Power.

War of the Spanish Succession: Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved ever since.

American Revolution: In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare: "France only wins when America does most of the fighting".

French Revolution: Won, primarily due to the fact that the opponent was also French.

The Napoleonic Wars: Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.

The Franco-Prussian War: Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.

WWI: Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like not only to sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.

WWII: Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.

War in Indochina: Lost. French forces plead sickness, take to bed with Dien Bien Flu.

Algerian Rebellion: Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a Western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare -"We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Eskimos.

War on Terrorism: France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe.
