Wouldn't a open beta be better than a closed beta? It seems like with a open beta you would get much more feedback, have a higher chance of catching bugs, and have a broader sense of what is in or out of balance. And it seem like a closed beta though im sure it can still be effective Is Limiting yourself for no apparent reason

Despite the fact you have a good point, I don't think the EF devs will take kindly to your idea.

Its not meant to be offensive. It just seems Logical

We can have both? The initial public release of the Ostheer might as well be considered an Open Beta, I'm sure there's going to be a lot of balance suggestions and bug squishing in the first month, but we require a Closed Beta before hand so the Ostheer goes through a serious, concentrated de-bugging and balancing effort before public release. Closed beta will be more about balance than bug testing, so starting the Open Beta at that stage would likely put a lot of people off playing further, to the detriment of the community (exhibit A being the v1.0 Soviets), there's a lot of be said about first impressions, and no amount of "It's only a beta!" will change peoples minds if what they witness initially is an unbalanced morass.

Like Burro said; a lot of players wont understand that a open beta isnt the "final release version" of the Ostheer.
The problem is that a lot of players are causal gamers. So they download this mod once. When this first download isnt good enough
to get their trust we will have the same problems like u could remember for the Soviet 1.0 release. A lot of people think that EF is still
crappy and broken till this day :-\

and keep in mind that the closed beta is for balance feedback so you cant play vs comp
ostheer beta is a pvp only version because we definetly need the pvp feedback for the public release
